Chapter 34: Phone Calls

Claudia had to stay at home for the next week with the flu, leaving me home by myself with a pile of leftovers and a bag of new clothes. It had been a few days since speaking to Harry, he'd been so busy. I decided to spend that night talking to people I missed. First, I called him.

"Hi?"

"Lovely! Hello, hi, how are you doing?"

"Good...Claudia and I just pulled a two day-er."

"It's wonderful to hear your voice."

"Yours too, angel. So, tell me everything! Where are you? What's going on?"

"We've just landed in Ireland," he began excitedly. "Niall's off to visit family, we have a few days to relax before the shows start. The crowds have been amazing, Sarah. Loud as hell. Everyone's recognizing us everywhere! All these girls keep coming up to me and I've never talked to so many at once. But I miss you, I know it's only been a few days, but I miss you so much and-"

"Harry!"

"Yeah?"

"I miss you too."

He giggled. "I'm sorry. I'm rambling."

"I like to hear you talk, all excited like that," I told him gently. I heard him breathing gently into the phone.

"I wish you were here," he said lightly.

"Hey. I will be."

"I know..." His voice was soft. We sat in silence until I heard voices in the background on his end. "Love? I have to go. Call me tomorrow?"

I sighed. It seemed like every time we tried to talk, he 'had to go'. "Of course," I told him. "Say hi to everyone else, tell them that I love them, okay?"

"I love you Sarah!" It was Zayn's voice I heard, I knew it. Before I knew it, everyone was calling to me through the phone.

"Sayruh!!"

"I love you Rachey!"

"Sarah, Harry's not letting me at my FIFA!"

"Sorry Lou..."

The pandemonium faded and Harry picked the phone back up. "I love you, baby."

"I love you too," I said, wanted to reach through the phone; to kiss his cheek, to touch his hair. "A lot."

"I'll see you soon," Harry said, more telling himself than me. I hung up, holding my phone in my hand for a minute of silence before picking up my train of thought again. Curling up on the floor with my homework on the coffee table, I called Fiona on Skype. She answered after half a ring and I was met with her smiling face.

"Hi!"

"Hey, Fio," I said fondly, returning her smile.

"What's the matter?" she asked immediately. Knowing me from the womb gave a sense of togetherness to us, meaning I could never hide my emotions from her.

"I was just talking to Harry," I told her.

"Oh right, he left for the tour not too long ago, didn't he," she said, her eyes wide. I nodded. "But you're going out to be with them all once you're legal?" I nodded again. She paused, eyeing me. When she spoke, her voice was soft. "How's Liam?"

"He's okay," I said gently. "About as okay as you." When Fiona's mum had announced that any more trips to the UK were out of the question, both of them, and I, had been crushed. I think they'd both moved on, but nothing they had together could ever quite go away.
