Chapter 40: Always is Just Another Word for Forever

After the dust had settled over the pregnancy, Harry was once again talking to me, and Rachel was again talking to Harry, we decided to take a goodbye-summer trip the beach.

Niall and Rachey sat in the back, while Harry drove and I lounged beside him. He was squirming, and finally I couldn't take it anymore.

"Are you okay?" I asked him. Harry glanced at me distractedly, curls pulled back by a pair of sunglasses. "Need to talk?"

Hands gripping the steering wheel, Harry looked sheepish. "I just..."

I sat up, realizing he was struggling with something actual. "Yeah?"

"I feel terrible that you won't be able to go to uni, lovely," he burst out softly. Then he looked at me apologetically. "It's my fault."

"No no no," I said quickly, putting a hand on Harry's arm. "Harry, none of this is your fault."

His eyebrows drew together. He wasn't buying it. "But you were so exited about school, and worrying it was too late, well after a baby it's going to be really late and-"

"Angel!" I could hear Niall and Rachel's bated breaths from the backseat, listening carefully. "Yeah, it's going to be much later than I meant to go to uni."

"Exactly, I just feel awful..." Harry murmured, tapping his fingers on the wheel.

"But we're going to have a baby, you and I," I said gently. Harry, at a stoplight, stared at me with wide eyes. "That's more important than school, right?"

Harry pulled his eyes from my face just as the light turned green.

"Right," he murmured, smiling to himself as we drove towards the sea.

"Nice!" I jumped in my seat as Rachel's voice appeared in my ear. I looked at her, shocked and grinning. "You two are adorable. Your dumb baby better be cute."

"Thanks, Rach," I said sarcastically, turning to the front and cranking the radio higher.

"Come on, play something respectable," Niall whined. I plugged my phone into the jack and blasted One Direction as loud as it could go, all the windows down. Harry shook his head, pretending he wasn't grinning at me. Rach and Niall, waving their arms in the air, sang along louder than the speakers.

"That's more like it," Niall cheered.

"But don't burn out, even if you scream and shout," I sang softly, watching Harry intently. He shook his head harder, refusing to sing along. "It'll come back to you, and I'll be here for you..." I grew louder and closer to Harry's ear and as the chorus blasted through the car, Harry's passionate voice filled the space.

"Oh, I would carry you over, fire and water, for your love...And I would hold you close and hope your heart is strong enough...when the night is coming down on you, we will find a way...through the dark."

As we pulled into the beach parking lot, opened up the doors, and let the salty air flow inside, I was flooded with memories.

"Hey," I said to Harry, "do you remember when we came here with-"

"Liam and Fiona," Harry finished immediately. "That was a good day. Right down to the chocolate-covered strawberries."

"Do you think he misses her?" I asked quietly, pulling a chair from the trunk and following Rach and Niall towards the sand.
