Chapter 36: Not Like You
"Have you noticed something?" Rachey asked, leaning into me. I looked around the bus for something to notice. I shook my head. She gestured discreetly to where Liam was sitting on the couch, beside Perrie's friend Danielle. On our last tour, she'd come around every once and a while to help us with makeup, but in the past year, I'd seen her a lot more often.
"What about her?" I whispered back to Rachey, eyeing them again.
"Where is she sitting?"
"Next to Liam," I replied easily, but she shook her head. I looked again. "Oh. On top of Liam," I corrected, smirking.
"I think they're dating," Rach said softly, smiling lightly out the window. Looking at Liam and Danielle once again, I nodded. I knew Fiona had moved on, they both had, she's even told me she had her eyes on someone back in maine. But it didn't stop me from aching a little, remembering what Fiona and Liam once had.
As time passed, the boys has swept away America again and we were merely hours from Boston, Massachusetts. Everyone was excited to see Fiona again, but I was over the moon. Nobody even got a second glance from me the entire day before we arrived at the stadium, Gillette.
"What time is the concert?" Claudia asked me, looking at me in the mirror. I was standing behind her, braiding her thick hair out of her face.
"Eight, I think?" I replied. "But I'm headed out to meet Fiona before. I'll probably not be back until tomorrow, I miss her loads."
Claudia grinned.
"Have fun, love," she said, waving as I grabbed my bag and jumped out of the bus door. It wasn't until I'd hailed a taxi and was halfway to her hotel that I realized I hadn't said goodbye, or good luck, to Harry. The thought was thrust from my mind as I saw my favorite memory standing on the curb, waving at me. I paid the cab driver in a hurry and jumped out to meet her, crashing into Fiona in a huge hug. "I missed you," I told her, squeezing her hard.
"I missed you more," she squeaked. "Now let's go eat, I'm starving."
By the time we finished dinner, there were four texts from Harry on my phone. I was about to take it out and check them when Fiona announced that she'd found her favorite ice cream place and we just had to go. I quickly shoved my phone away, distracted, as I followed her out onto the street. It had started to flurry a little, the type of snow that clings to your eyelashes and shades everything silver.
"I can't believe how long it's been," I said cheerfully, licking my strawberry cone to prevent the drips from reaching my hand. "Tell me about this Zach guy." Fiona blushed, looking at me from the corner of her eye."He's a freshman in college, we met about a month and a half ago..." Taking out her phone, it clicked on to reveal a lockscreen of a dark-haired boy and Fiona, wearing matching baseball hats and childish grins. She bit her lip, cheeks definitely red. "I really like him." Her words came out in an excited sigh.
"Sounds serious," I said, grinning. My phone began to ring, I reached into my pocket to silence it. "Are you officially 'dating' yet?"
Fiona paused. "How's Liam?" she asked softly, tossing her napkin into a nearby trash can. "I feel bad about moving on....when I still remember him." My mouth full of ice cream, I shook her words away with my hands.
"He's got a thing with a friend of Perrie's," I said quickly, not wanting to ruin her happiness. "He's happy. You're happy. I completely believe that you two can move on without feeling bad. Now tell me more about Zach!!" Fiona grinned at me, letting out a girlish giggle.
"I'm happy for Liam," she said distractedly, then suddenly he was forgotten and Fiona began to rant, her cheeks flushed and hands thrown about comically, telling me everything about her past months with Zach. Time flew by, and suddenly the streets were dark. "Wanna go get a soda somewhere?" Fiona asked, pointing to a booming club across the street.
