The year is 2563.
You're probably imagining some beautiful utopia where people regularly stop off at space stations or fancy, high tech studios. Or perhaps you imagine that androids and advanced AI are now integrated into society... The more pessimistic ones may even think they transformed society into one where humans have taken the back seat, lost and forgotten.
Well, let me tell you : Whatever extreme you're imagining is wrong.
Society is just as it was back in 2021, just slightly better (COVID is now a distant memory, for example). In a way, it's just like someone froze time, fixed a lot of society's issues, and then let people continue to exist.
The lads and ladies still put on their lipstick to go clubbing late at night. The icky capitalist winners still go to their job interviews, hoping to get hired. The more yeehaw folks still ride and tend to their horses. The gangs are still trying to assert dominance over one another, avoiding the swings of their opponent's shivs or brass knuckles. The music industry (as corrupt as it still is) continues to distribute out the latest hits, though the type of music that sells really hasn't changed much.
It's honestly all the same as it was... Except for a few key things.
You see, no one understands why or how, but people suddenly stopped aging once they hit 27 years of age. Those older just stopped aging at the same time. What's worse? Everyone became infertile.
The population stopped growing, but no one is dying of age so it's not like it started as too concerning of a thing. We've been on a slow decline ever since the change due to murder, suicide, and vehicular accidents, but that only affects so many. Though, I'll tell ya, there was a huge drop once people began to realize that something had gone awry. Those who wanted to bear children were also quite distraught (hard to calculate exactly, but that definitely contributed to the drop).
Yes, humanity is just as it was in 2021... And it's only a matter of time until it ceases.
