After he, Percy, and Annabeth had returned to camp alive after their quest (a task that even Chiron had thought to be impossible), Mr. D had given him the option to leave camp and search for the God of the Wild. He found himself in New Orleans, determined to eventually go to Florida. There was a strong scent he could sense from down there, even as far as he was, and it gave him hope.
He took a deep breath, letting the air go down his throat, through his lungs, and out his nose. New Orleans wasn't really a place he wanted to spend much time in- And on multiple occasions he even found himself muttering small apologies to the plant life on behalf of all the people who littered- But it was a tolerable resting place.
He ended up staying in a small motel, managing to play a small tune on his reed pipes that made the desk receptionist fall into a sort of trance, a small snore coming out of her as he snatched a random room key and found a room to stay in.
It was a small room with one, small bed, a microwave that had several of the buttons broken, a moldy slice of bread festering in the corner of the room, and the faint smell of vinegar and sweat.
He turned on the television and sighed, pulling a small bag of raspberries out of his knapsack and quietly munching on them. He was beginning to feel a bit lonely when suddenly the familiar mist of an Iris message appeared by him, showing the smiling face of Percy.
"Hey, buddy" the satyr greeted, feeling his worries and loneliness suddenly melt away.
"Hey!" Percy responded. "You okay?"
"I am now"
