Required words : identical, pot roast, decorate, sign, abuse, library, amnesia, butcher, submit, sensationLife (or afterlife, as the case may be) in Limbo was frankly worse than that of Hell. At least in Hell, there was some ounce of civilization even if its leader was abusive and there was a constant war going on.
Of course, this was not by fault of Limbo itself. It was not meant to be the permanent residing place for anyone, only a temporary place to stay while one waited for judgement. And it was perfectly nice for what it was.
A small lake lied under a small, wooden bridge that led to a cabin. The sign outside simply read "Await Judgement", and the inside was cozy and minimalist. During the living world's holiday times, they would put up some corresponding decorations, but it was usually pretty plain. A small library sat in the corner of the room, which was good for killing time.
The only people who stayed there permanently were the employees, most of which were actually just old demon or angel servants.
The exception to this staff only rule was Cloud and Duolc, two identical, bleached white teenagers who had never undergone judgement and never would.
At first it had just been Cloud, who had refused to submit a judgement application despite the constant pressure from the staff. Eventually, Limbo took away all his memories and physical distinction, leaving him as a factory reset amnesiac with no more sensation in his body.
This drove him mad, even despite his delusional optimism.
The staff took pity and allowed for him to clone himself just to have someone to talk to. This led to Duolc being created, and despite him physically resembling his human counterpart, his personality was very different.
He carried a knife, but not like that of a butcher helping the pot roast, no. He used it to inflict harm and satiate his deep want for bloodshed. He also hated Cloud for making him, and he couldn't leave.
For better or for worse, they only had each other.
