"H-hello?""Rose Clearwater?"
"Speaking."
"I would just like to tell you-
-"-Michael Gordon Clifford is currently being treated in our hospital, and you were listed as his emergency contact." My heart stopped as I realized he's alive.
Michael is alive.
"He- he's okay?"
"I can't share that information with you over the phone but I would be glad to discuss further once you arrive."
"Yes yes, I will be there. Can you give me the address?"
I grab a sheet of paper and a pen than quickly scribble down the address. I run out of my apartment and quickly get into my car, turning on the engine and not waiting for it to warm up I step on the gas and back out of the apartment complex parking lot.
Questions and gruesome thoughts race in my mind and I quickly come to realize I am in a state of panic and I was scared half to death.
I rush to the hospital and once I finally arrive I hop out of my car and run into the white building, as I walk in I am greeted by a sweet looking elder woman sitting behind a beautiful oak desk.
"May I help you?"
"Yes I I would like to see Michael Clifford." My hands are shaking and my voice seems to be wavering.
"Yes, honey he is in room 3 on this floor. Just walk straight and the hall will split into two, go to the left and the door will have to number 3 on it."
"Thank you."
I practically run, down the hall and take the left than, finally slow down.
Room #s began to appear next to the doors

I suck in a breath and hope to see my Michael.

I walk into the room and cry at the sight in front of me. There he lays, a broken boy with olive eyes and colorful red hair.
My heart shattered. Tubes are connected to him, all over him. It seemed to be the machines keeping him alive, not himself.
I sit in a chair beside his bed and cry. The only noise in the room seemed to be my sobs and the steady beating of his heart projecting onto the heart monitor.
A pretty nurse enters the room and her smile fades once she sees me.
"Hello, are you Mrs.Clifford?"
"Oh,uh no. I'm Rose, his girlfriend."
"Fair enough, Michael is in critical condition at the moment." She holds up a binder in her hands and flips through pages of graphs and writing. "He has many X-rays and tests that he will be going through shortly, to determine what we can do to help him."
I just nod and look up at Michael's seemingly lifeless body.
Something in my head had clicked and I put two and two together
He was already dead
Not literally but, he wasn't keeping himself alive they were all those damn machines.
I don't know how long I had been in that horrible white room, staring at nothing. With nurses taking Michael out than putting him back in.
Nurses came every so often to tell me the result of the x Ray or the blood test. But, they still didn't know why he was so fragile and frail.
