A soft knock on my bedroom door stirs me, waking me from my dream.
"Kash? Are you going to school or are you staying home for Dhanteras? I need to register your absence if you're taking the day off.". Dad has the door open just a crack, letting a string of light in from the illuminated corridor of the second floor.
I sigh, keeping my eyes close as I pull my duvet tighter around my shoulders, digging my head into my pillow.
"I'm staying home, dad.", I grumble, earning a soft 'okay' from my father before he closes the door and leaves me to return to my dreams.

It's nearing ten o'clock when I finally walk downstairs, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
Kade.
Kade. Kade. Kade.
He's been all that's on my mind since our fight yesterday, with a momentary pause when I fucked Sage. I still had a bad feeling in my mouth, and an even worse one in my chest.
Depraved.
He said he didn't feel the way I did. I stupidly admitted how I felt and he shot me down. I really thought, or wanted to think that he felt what I felt too - now I wasn't so sure anymore. Him screaming at me that he didn't should've convinced me, but there was this nagging thought at the back of my head.
Maybe I don't have a good reason, alright?
That was what he said. That he didn't have a good reason for being rude, or for blowing me off (well, not literally), but that he was just angry and didn't know why.
The clatter of pots and pans in the kitchen makes me groan as I enter, gaining the attention of mum and Ravi.
"You're lucky were secular, otherwise I would've dragged you both out of bed by sunrise.", Mum jokes, standing up to pour me a cup of coffee. I take a seat next to Ravi who's munching on his breakfast pancakes, tempting me to steal some.
"I was thinking I'd start on the downstairs, and you boys can do the upstairs area?", Mum asks, but more it's more an order than a request. Dhanteras was the first day of Diwali, and if we were staying home to participate, we were going to actually have to participate in the traditions.
Ravi always stayed home, because after cleaning it was time to buy new clothes and golden jewelry, which he enjoyed far more than I did. Dhanteras was the most boring day of Diwali for me, so I often went about my daily activities as per usual. However, staying home meant not going to school and having to see Kade.
And boy, I'd clean a thousand bathrooms to avoid him just a little bit longer.
"Why so sad?"
I lift my head from where it rested in my palm, looking at Ravi.
"Why whisper?", I murmur back, glancing at mum.
She's getting pancakes for me, and she's humming some tune to herself. Ravi nods towards mum, widening his eyes as if the reason was obvious.
"It's weird to whisper.", I whisper, shrugging my shoulders.
"You're fine with her knowing about your sex life then?", he hisses back and I frown. My sex life?
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Everybody saw you storm down the stairs and come out all disheveled and troubled from Sage's room. Did she do something to you?"
Ravi gets more defensive at his own question, warming my heart a bit. I like to describe him as whole-hearted, always considerate to the best of his abilities. He was a dumbass sometimes, but he cared.
