A smell of burning parchment and firewood filled the air. The nice cackling sound of a burning fire brought a feeling of joy over Mine as he went to pull the blanket over his feet. The fluffy and cozy blanket kept him warm as the raging frosty winds blew outside. A fireplace in a small cottage with one room as the whole house. Three couches surrounding a lovely fireplace covered in pictures and Christmas ornaments. In the kitchen a smell of tasty turkey and a beautiful Christmas dinner loomed. Mine opened his eyes eyeing the half lit Christmas tree with the opened presents and lights that could put a beautiful summer sunset to shame. He looked over to one of the couches with his father sleeping with the newspaper in hand and a coffee mug by his head. The feeling of Christmas being over was bumming, for a twelve year old it only meant a long wait for the next one. Mine sighed and tried to remember the amazing day he had with his family and some friends. Just like normal with him waking up and running to the tree ripping apart the wrapping paper like it was candy. He got everything he wanted on his list from the gaming console he wanted to the Art supplies. His father's parents and other family visited and they had a bountiful dinner together sharing amazing times with each other, love felt between them. Everyone went home giving kisses and hugs leaving a mess for him and his father to clean but when they were done they sat on the couch and fell asleep together. Mine turned and looked at the ceiling, smiling slowly being taken by his heavy eyelids. He fell asleep and held onto his trusty stuffed bear. All was well and peaceful until minutes later when an explosion outside shook the cottage causing snow to fall from the roof. He jumped at the sound and his father was already at the door looking for the cause of the sound. Sirens began to go off in the distance as more explosions were set off nearby.
"Rome is attacking! Everyone get to shelter or evacuate!" Someone yelled outside of the house. His father looked at him in distress and ran over to him.
"Son, we need to go." His father said, grabbing a small backpack with a small star logo. He shoved all of Mines stuff into it and put it onto his back. Mine was half awake and scared, grabbing onto his father's hand for dear life. They ran out the front doors of the cottage into the cold winter air. The wind had stopped and the snow settled. Fires broke out in a town nearby sending black smoke into the air around them. Screams came from all directions as people rushed by them in panic.
"Daddy? What's going on?" His father didn't respond, still pulling him through the crowd of people. A person smacked into Mines arm at full sprint and the bear slipped from his hand falling into the snow behind him. Mine looked back trying to pull his father for the bear, tears filling his eyes. He tried to fight the pull of his father but was no match. He was picked up and watched as his bear was trampled and drove over. He began to cry kicking and screaming trying to yell for his bear. His father stopped in front of some sort of box covered by a blanket and set him down. He pulled the blanket down showing some blue in the darkness. Then he kneeled next to his confused and terrified son.
"I need you to go into this ship called the Carbonizor and go somewhere safe. Can you do that for daddy?" Mine looked around and slightly nodded. He had some experience with driving one but never on his own. His father set his hand under Mine's chin and lifted up his head smiling.
"You will do great things my son. I love you." His father kissed his forehead and gave him a hug before sending him inside.
"W-what about you?" His father stopped and looked back at him smiling and snapped his fingers closing the doors. His eyes glowed a bright blue before the doors shut. Mine watched the doors close in front of him and started bawling his eyes out. Throwing his backpack he ran to the counsel in a desperate turn to get the machine back home. The ship slowed down and a screen appeared in front of the crying child. His home planet had thousands of ships flying at it at once shooting red lasers at it causing cities to explode in a bright light. Mine grabbed another stuffed animal still wiping his eyes, clearing out the tears that fell off of his face onto the floor. He stared at the planet looking for a small chance for hope but none came. The planet started to expand and turn into a ball of fire. A ring of fire burst out of the equator sending the ship into a spiral in space flinging it deeper into space. The planet sent rocks and debris throughout the solar system. Mine clutched his stuffed animal as hard as he could and screamed in anger and fear. The planet of Milaca had fallen.
