A nice autumn breeze blew through the trees around a small home owned by the Nishi family. The smell of freshly grown vegetables wafted around the house like a ghost. A girl with flowing brown hair, brown eyes and school attire bolted out of her home onto the front steps.

"Steve, hurry up!!" She yelled, throwing her backpack over her shoulder. A boy just a bit younger rushed out the door breathing heavily, his blue eyes glaring at her and his messy brown hair blowing in the wind.

"Snowy I swear! I can only go so fast!" He slugged down the stairs and down the pathway next to her.

"We're going to miss the bus. Hurry up." Snowy ran ahead and stopped at the end of the driveway. Steve trudged along the path behind her right as the bus pulled up. They jumped on and the bus flew down the road.

"Snowy?" Steve said, shifting his eyes left and right.

"Yea?" She glanced at him with concern and pulled out an apple from her backpack. They stepped on the bright yellow bus ignoring the strange looks from the people they walked by.

"I-I'm scared." She gave him the apple and pulled him to her for a hug.

"Don't worry I'll be here for you and, to be honest. I am kind of scared too. First day of school and all." Steve gave a weak smile and looked out the window. The bus passed through Sunset, turning a corner revealing Thé Park. It was a lush forest with a small pond and a great place for fishing or hunting.

"After school let's go and explore that park all right? It should get your mind off of school." Steve nodded and turned back to the park, admiring the sights. The bus pulled up to the school, screeching to a halt. Kids poured off the bus onto the sidewalk. Snowy dragged Steve off the bus and pulled him right over near the flag.

"You'll be fine!! I'll see you during lunch!" Steve's eyes teared up and he lunged at his sister nearly knocking her over.

"I-I don't wanna g-go!" She pulled away and locked eyes with him. Her stare was hypnotizing and he calmed down.

"We might be in different grades but we will survive the day. Don't worry! For the fifth time..." She sighed and turned away admiring the large school. The walls were painted red and a flag centered in the circular lot in front of the school.

"Steve, this place is awesome! You'll love it. Tru- Steve?" She looked around for a moment. Snowy walked around the back of the school and heard kids shouting. Her head poked around the corner in curiosity, spotting Steve almost instantly. Two kids were hounding him, one had him by the collar of his uniform and the other was laughing behind him.

"Snowy help!!" Steve yelled, gasping for air.

"You think your sister will help you? Ya cry baby!" He punched Steve in the gut. The other kid started laughing maniacally.

"Let Go!!" He yelled and kicked. The bully punched him again. Steve gave up hunched over holding his stomach.

"Giving up are you? Heh just like the normal Nishi. Always giving up right at the peak of battle." Steve spotted Snowy and smiled.

"Nishi never gives up." Steve lifted his leg and kicked the bully in the gut flinging him back towards Snowy. She wrapped her arms around his neck and threw him to the ground. Steve ran up to his friend who threw a punch and missed. Snowy punched him in the back of his head and pushed him onto his friend.

"Let's go before this gets uglier than what it needs to be." Snowy and Steve ran to the front of the school right as the first bell rang. Snowy walked to her locker grabbing the supplies for the day just as a random kid bumped into her, alarming her.

"I-I'm so sorry!" He said, covering his face. She saw his blond hair and his extensive blue clothing. Snowy picked her books up in worry that the guy would run away in fear.

"It's fine... I bump into ev-" He ran off down the hall bumping into people left and right before she could finish. Snowy watched him turn the corner and sighed.

"Why does everyone seem scared of me? All I did was protect my brother and boom..." She shook her head, slamming her locker and headed to class. The morning became a blur in her head as it went by quickly. The lunch bell rang just as the teacher finished his first day speech. Snowy grabbed her books trying her hardest to get out of class as fast as she could. The teacher stepped in front of her and blocked the doorway.

"I need to talk to you. Please follow me." He turned around and headed back to his desk where he sat down and studied the papers on his desk.

"Did I do something wrong sir?" He didn't respond. She shuffled in place for a moment trying to think of something else to say. The teacher started moving the items on his desk patiently waiting for something to happen.

"Do you know why I held you after class?" She shook her head as she suddenly remembered what she did to the bullies behind the school. Sweat started dripping down her face. She hoped that he wouldn't have found out about the little issue she had that morning.

"I'm sure you do, and I'm proud of you for doing it." Her eyes instantly leveled with the teacher's as he stood up and pulled a pumpkin pie treat out of his little fridge that sat behind his desk.

"You stuck up for your brother and took down those bullies! I'm impressed, Ms. Nishi." Snowy smiled and took the treat from his desk, saying "Thanks!" and walking out of the room taking a bite of the fluffy candy. She sat down at the lunch table and found Steve walking up to her from a class that was dismissed late.

"I cannot believe this. My class is full of idiots! None of them know what we are learning and all they do is mess around the entire time." Steve sat down next to her and set his head in his arms.

"So I'll take it wasn't a very good day? He grunted and proceeded with his head in his hands. She rubbed his back trying to calm him down. She turned around and noticed the kid she had bumped into earlier. In her head, she wanted to put her hand in the air and yell "Hey! Come sit with us!" But she didn't have the courage to say anything and went back to eating her pumpkin bar. Steve pushed his backpack to its side and opened it up, pulling out a lunch.

"Ohh what did you pack for me today?" Snowy looked at him still with a mouth full of the bar. He laughed and pulled out the contents of the bag. He tried to pull something else out of the bag but found it was lodged behind something. He pulled as hard as he could and the bag ripped, sending an apple and a bottle into the air. Everything stood still as the items flew through the air heading for a group of people standing in the lunch line. In panic Steve stood on the table and lunged for them, snatching the water and crashing to the floor.

"Steve! You klutz are you okay?" Snowy ran to his side and helped him up. His eyes followed the apple through the air as it landed on a kid's head. Snowy started laughing as the apple rolled to her feet. Others around her joined in and the kid ran out of the room chagrined.

"Why would you laugh at him? He just got smashed on the head with an apple." Snowy wiped her eyes and glanced at him with guilt. She shook her head and sat back down, stuffing her face with the remaining bit of her snack.

"Does that not affect you?" Steve asked sharply. Snowy took her last bite and shook her head again. Steve stared at her as though waiting for her to say something else. She sat in her place for a full minute before walking off down the hallway laughing.

"She is so rude sometimes. Ugh... why do I have to live with her?" He turned around and sat finishing his lunch.
