Chapter Eighteen

It just seemed so real.

That was because it was real, I reminded myself. It really had happened. Cody and I had gone to the haunted house that night, and he'd come back home with me and then we...

He was the first and only boy I had ever had sex with.

It was everything I'd ever imagined it would be. Gentle yet persistent, lustfull yet patient, true and honest. Afterwards I'd thought that maybe we would have a relationship, a real relationship but... I needed to stop. Whenever I tried to forget Cody something always came up and screamed his name in my face. Oi looky here, Karly! We found your dead best friends necklace on your bed! Sweet, right?!

Talk. About. Bittersweet.

I groaned and pulled myself out of the bed, glancing at the clock that read it was a quarter to nine. I stood up somewhat shaky and swore that I could see Cody outside, his blone hair lose and shaggy but it was gone just as quickly as it had appeared.

I was seriously going insane.

I dragged myself into the shower and washed, then changed into yogas and a sweatshirt. I picked my phone up off the floor and saw:

11 Missed Calls from Mom

8 Missed Calls from Brandon

6 Missed Calls from Tyler

23 Missed Calls from Lauren

1 Missed Call from Liam

None of those surprised me but the last one. Mom would want to know what I knew about the necklace, Brandon would either be needing someone to talk to about the whole thing and not trusting Lauren to keep her pretty little mouth shut or wanted to make sure I was okay, Tyler probably wanted to make sure I was still sane, and Lauren no doubt wanted me to admit that I had somehow had the necklace the whole time, which didn't make any sence at all and wasn't true. Liam though, that I didn't know.

I slid the iPhone screen and saw that on top of the calls, I also had this:

2 Texts from Lauren

1 Text From Tyler

1 Text from Liam

I clicked on Lauren's and read the two:

I know that you've had that necklace from the begging, Karly. Admit it! Call me back ASAP.

Karly! CALL ME!

I sighed, deleting both of them, then opened Tylers:

Hey Karly, I know that we talked a couple of hours ago but you're not answering my calls and I have something to tell you that's kind of important and I think needs to be said over phone. So call me back whenever you can. Hope you're okay. ~T

I bit my lip. I didn't have any clue what this important news was exactly, but I wasn't in the mood. I left the text, not deleting it and not responding either and went to Liam's:

Supppp K I was wondering if you wanted to come down to rehersals with me and the lads. They miss ya! didn't really get a chance to meet you before, and i show you just how amazing of a singer i am ;) text me back

Something about the text made me laugh. Maybe because of all the missing words and spelling mistakes, or maybe because it was the only one that wasn't about Cody. Anyway, for some reason, it made me want to respond, so I did:

Sure. What time and where?

He answered almost immeditley:

I'll pick you up in an hour(:

I changed, into a slightly nicer shirt and ran a brush through my hair and even applied just a little bit of makeup. While I was getting ready, my phone continued to ring and vibrate, but I ignored all of the calls.

I finished with forty minutes to spare (I really don't take that long to get ready), so decided to look up this famous One Direction one more time. This time rather than checking Google I checked Youtube, and instantly videos of them performing at places like All State Arena and Madison Square Garden popped up. I scrolled, and found one called a VideoDiarydecided it was interesting, and clicked on it.

It showed the boys. Liam's hair was in a JB haircut and he looked younger. Around the boys he seemed so mature. Like he was the glue of the group, keeping everything together.

Below, in the comments, someone said:

Interviewer: "Where would One Direction be without Liam Payne?"

Ed Sheeran: "Jail."

I laughed out loud. Liam didn't seem that responsible around me. Or maybe that was just beause I'd been through too much.

I checked the time, realizing that I had about five minutes and went to the closet to find my jacket. I slipped it on. I walked over to the table to pick up my phone, which now about a billion new notifications, and slipped it into the left pocket. My hand brushed something unfamilliar as I did, and I closed my fingers on it slowly, then pulled it out.

My phone clattered to the ground, forgetten.

I gapsed and began to back away, as if to get away from it, and tripped over a boot, sending me flying onto the floor, the thing still in my hand.

I sat there, gasping, clutching it, and wondering how the actual hell Cody's necklace had ended up in my jacket pocket.

But that wasn't the worst part.

Attached to it, was a note, in no other than Cody's handwritting that read:

This belongs to you. ~C

Note:

That's short but kind of dramatic!
