Life as a Show Dog

Chapter 1

Jake's P.O.V

"Just because I'm famous doesn't mean I like it." I tried to explain to my little sister, Cloe, for the fifth time. 

"I still just don't get why you don't like it!" She complained. 

"Because I never get more that two hours of free time! I bet if you become famous one day you might like it at first like I did, but one day you will hate it." I told her. 

"You're confusing." Cloe said as she walked away. Then I heard the sound of my person's (Hannah) alarm clock beeping, that meant it was 6 AM in human and breakfast time for me. I ran into her bedroom, shut off the alarm clock, and pulled the blankets off Hannah. She grunted and stood up slowly. When I was sure she was going to stay up I ran to the kitchen and turned on the coffee pot. After a minute Hannah came in and pulled a can of chicken flavored dog food from the fridge and set it on the counter, as she put some toast in the toaster I nudged the can food into the can opener. After the usual quiet breakfast Hannah went to go get ready for the day while I went outside to do some business.

When 6:30 came Hannah played with me for 15 minutes before we got into the car to go to work. Hannah spoke to me as she drove along, she works at a place where she helps take care of other animals and train them, it's called "Training and Caring", so original. When we got there we went in, signed in, and walked to Hannah's office. It was decorated with a framed picture of me on the wall. Suddenly Hannah's phone buzzed and she hurried out of the room to go take care of an animal in need, like usual. Then a lady named Kyla came in and handed me a chew toy bone, without the squeak, and a small bone-shaped, beef flavored treat. She petted me and played with me for a bit, gave me one more treat, and left to go spoil another dog, that was her job. After a few minutes of playing with myself I got board so I wandered out of the room and headed to the cat area, I liked to go there and upset the cats.

I nudged the door open and started pacing in front of the rows of cages, every once in a while I would yap at them, soon they started meowing and hissing and making messes in the cages, then all of the commotion made four people come. One led me out of the room and the other three tried to calm down the cats while trying to clean up there cages. The one leading me out put me in the dog play room, gave me a treat, and left me there, I like the dog play room.

A dozen dogs were running around and playing with toys. I ran over to a Poodle and tackled her then ran over and tackled a German Shepard. They both started chasing me and barking, then suddenly I took a sharp turn and left the other two sliding into the wall. 

"Hey!" They both yelped and started playing with each other instead. I just started laughing and trotted over to a small black Labrador puppy. 

"Hey! Your the famous Jake! I love you! Your hilarious and I wish I knew all the tricks you do!" The puppy squealed. 

"Thanks pup!" I said. I heard the voice of Hannah near by then she appeared by the gate. 

"Here Jake!" She called as I started running to her. Before she could open the gate I jumped over it swiftly. I heard a bunch of "whoa" come from the play area and I smiled.

"Your such a funny dog, Jake, but don't encourage the other dogs to do that." She said joyfully. "It's 7:30 and you know what that means, it's time to take you over to the "Dog Spa". I ran to the door and Hannah quickly told the front desk where she was going and that she would be back then stepped outside. I ran around for two minutes before Hannah called me into the car and we drove off. When we got there she signed me in, and called her best friend Gianna, Gianna always comes and picks me up from the dog spa to take me to a place where they teach dogs what to do in there next show episode or commercial. She said goodbye and left to go back to work. After chatting with another dog in the waiting room for a few minutes I was called up to get taken care of. My usual stylist washed and groomer me with a gentle drying. Then she sprayed a honey smelling perfume on me and groomed me again. Then she trimmed some of my fur and cut my nails, she even brushed my teeth.

It was 8:30 by the time we were done and Gianna was ready to pick me up. She petted me and talked to me as we walked to her van, I occasionally yapped that way she knew I was listening, even though she couldn't understand me. After the ride she dropped me off and a man named Carl walked me to my own personal office where he gave me a few treats and a toy. Then a lady walked in to check me over to make sure I was ready for work, she left with a nod of her head. Then after a minute Carl walked me to a training room where Carla, his sister and my trainer, took me. 

"Hey, Jake. Today you're doing a commercial for dog food for the brand "Healthy Dog, Happy Dog." She told me. "You will need to run down a stairs, turn a corner into the kitchen, and start gobbling down the bowl of food, and don't worry, it's only half a cup. When your done eating you will need to spin-jump in the air to show your love for the food and then yap three times." She instructed. I ran over to the kitchen set with a stairs and ran up the stairs while Carla filled the bowl. Then She told me to pretend to eat the first time while there not recording.

When she whistled I knew it was time to start. Then I ran down the stairs, slid on the floor (on purpose) as I turned the corner and ran to the food, I quickly pretended to eat it and then did the jump and yaps. 

"Wow, everyday you amaze me on how well you understand English." Carla told me. "Now lets do it for real." She added on. I went up the stairs as she called over the camera crew. Then I heard the whistle. I ran down the stairs, slid, ran to the food, gobbled it down, and did the spin-jump plus the three yaps. Then I saw the camera light turn off to mark they were done recording. 

"We need a video of a few dogs running across some grass to put the food brand words above." One of the men told Carla. 

"Got it." She responded with. She quickly went and collected two dogs, a teenage one and a puppy. Then she called me over to an outdoor set. She instructed me what to do then encouraged the puppy to do the same with a treat at the other side of the set, while the pup practiced I showed the teenage one what to do. Then she lined us up and had us practice running across the set in a line from oldest to youngest. After a few times she called over the camera men and had us recorded. Then she took the three of us to a snack room. We cooled off and drank water as Carla got us a few treats and some dry, pork flavored food.

It was already 10:30 AM when we were done and I was resting on a dog bed in my office when 20 minutes later Hannah came in to take me back to her job. She made sure to let me rest when we got back that way I don't get too tired. I just sat in her office and watched her look at profiles of dogs that have recently come to the place. It was quite boring, but it was worth it. When noon finally came I was very glad because that means we can finally go home! I wagged my tail the whole way home and when we got there I jumped up to a chair at the table. Lunch was my favorite meal because Hannah lets me eat off plates, sit at the table, and eat human food then. Today's lunch was a ham sandwich for me and a grilled cheese for her. After lunch we played outside and then we took naps.
