George's View
I was watching the ship pull away from the dock In Southampton at noon on April the 10th. One of the servants that worked in the Titanic already showed us where our room was and brought our luggage to our room. As I was watching people take pictures of the Titanic I noticed that the pull created by the ship snapped the ropes to a ship called SS New York. Luckily the ship dodged it but this sight left an unsettling feeling in my stomach.
"Did you see that?" asked Mrs. Mary
"Yeah," I replied, "isn't that a bad omen?"
"Sometimes it can be a bad omen, but this ship is supposed to be 'unsinkable' so I'm sure we'll be fine" Mrs. Mary reassured me.
"I hope your right grandma" I said
"Anyways," Mrs.Mary said in a cheerful voice, "Let's forget about that and go ahead and do my favorite thing about ships."
"What would that be?" I asked.
"Watching the land slowly disappear and get replaced with water!" Mrs. Mary exclaimed.
My grandma grabbed my hand and pulled me to the best spot on the deck where we could watch the land disappear. It really was beautiful. Watching the land slowly fade away from view looked like something you would read about in a fairy tale.
"Grandma, can we watch the land come into our view when we get close to New York?" I asked a little louder than I meant to.
"Of course sweetie," Mrs. Mary said with an even bigger smile then I normally see her give, "I'm so glad you like it, your Father never liked to watch this kind of stuff. He would normally go exploring as soon as he got on a ship. You actually act a lot like your father when he was younger."
"Does this mean I'm gonna go bald, and turn into a mean old grumpy guy?" I asked with a sound of urgency in my voice.
"He's not that bad, he's just strict with you and wants the best for you, though you might go bald" Mrs. Mary teased. "Anyway did you memorize the map?"
"I sure did and I can even lead you to where everything is and tell you the names of the rooms I'm leading you too!" I said pridefully.
"Good for you, I am gonna head to the lounge if you need me. Be safe and try to stay out of trouble" Mrs. Mary chuckled.
"I'll be safe but I can't promise you that I'll stay out of trouble" I teased.
I gave my grandma a big hug then ran off to go explore. I wanted to see the pool, the gym, and to run around on the decks before it got dark. I decided to do the decks first because I was already there. I went around and counted all the lifeboats. There were only 20 lifeboats which confused me because there would not be enough room for everyone on the Titanic to fit on those lifeboats. I decided to shrug it off figuring that nothing bad would happen and that I would be fine. After that I visited the pool. The pool was only meant for first class passengers so there weren't many people there. I took off my shoes and socks and dipped my feet into the water. It was kinda chilly. I then went to the gym and it was also pretty empty. I saw a few weird things meant for exercising that I wasn't quite sure what they did. I tried to figure out how to use one of the machines but when I heard it make a loud clunking sound I bolted out the door before anyone saw just in case I broke it. I decided that I would go around and explore the hallways. While walking around in the hallways I found the cargo room, all of the passenger hallways, and of course a few other things. Eventually I got hungry. I went by the kitchen and poked my head in. There were a bunch of chefs preparing food for dinner. I went inside and over towards the counter and grabbed an apple for a snack. One of the chefs spotted me.
"Get out of here boy!" the chef yelled angrily.
Luckily I still had the apple so I ate it before running backup to the deck. Once I got to the deck I found a spot where a few fish were jumping out of the water and I chucked my apple core at them. It made a loud plunk as it hit the water. The core floated a few seconds looking like a speck of dust from how small it was and from how far away it was.. It took all of my eyesight to continue to see it. After a few seconds I saw a fish jump out of the water and eat the apple core. By the time I was done exploring it was almost dinner time so I decided to start to head down to the dining room. It was pretty packed but eventually I found my grandma sitting at a table. I decided to take a seat next to her. When I sat down, I finally noticed how fancy this place is. I didn't put much thought into how it looked until I sat down for dinner. It was beautiful. Everything from the floor to the walls to the plates to the chandeliers was beautiful. I was awestruck on how neat and clean and pleasing to the eye everything was. After about 5 minutes my grandma finished her conversation with the people she was sitting by.
"Hello there George," Mrs. Mary said.
"Hello grandma!" I said.
"What did you do today?" Mrs. Mary asked.
"Well first I explored the decks where we were at. Though there was something wrong with it" I expressed with concern.
"What would that be?" Mrs. Mary asked with concern in her voice.
"There were only 20 lifeboats which is not nearly enough lifeboats to rescue everyone if something bad happens to the ship" I said.
"That would be a problem but I'm sure we'll be fine" Mrs. Mary said.
One of the passengers piped in and said, "Don't worry, this ship is unsinkable. We'll be completely fine."
"Yeah I guess you're right" I agreed.
"So what else did you do today sweetie?" asked Mrs. Mary.
"Well after the docks I then went to the pool and then I went to the gym." I said "The pool looked like a lot of fun so I'm probably going to go there for a little while at some point in this trip"
"It sounds like you had a lot of fun already on this trip!" Mrs. Mary said.
"Yeah," I said, "I have."
"I'm glad you've had fun so far," said Mrs. Mary.
After dinner me and grandma started heading back to our rooms. While walking up the grand staircase I ran my hand along the railway appreciating the details of everything. My grandma got two rooms. One for me and one for herself. When she bought the tickets she didn't realize how many mini rooms were in one room and how big each room was so I got a whole room to myself. Before I went to bed I visited grandma's room and we played a couple of card games. When I went to my room it was 10:00pm so I got ready for bed. When I looked for my hat, I couldn't find it. I realized I put it in one of the bags that were in the cargo room. I've had that hat for years, so it means a lot to me. It also helps me sleep at night. I grabbed my lock picks, key to the room, and map and put on my sweater and shoes. I was going to sneak into the first class cargo room.
