Yuánfèn (缘分)

Chapter 3

It takes a few seconds for Shen Yue and Wang He Di to break eye contact.

"Di!" an excited voice calls.

Noticing Connor, Xiao Zhan, and a stunningly beautiful woman approach, Shen Yue quickly gets up and gathers himself.

"At last I found you." the woman greets him with a hug.

"Di, are we interrupting something?" Connor whispers and laughs.

Wang He Di frowns, "I went to get some documents."

Xiao Zhan approaches Shen Yue as if she were an unprotected child.

"What happened to you?"

"I lost my contact lens."

"Contact lens?" Xiao Zha looks at her confused, "I didn't know you were wearing..."

"Have the other girls arrived yet?" interrupts Yue.

"Everyone is already here, we were just waiting for you."

"I'm sorry for being late!" Shen Yue says gently.

"If you hadn't gotten drunk last night, you sure as hell would have been more punctual." Wang He Di speaks sharply.

A brief silence takes over the place. Xiao Zhan and Connor look at each other in surprise. Shen Yue takes a few steps towards Wang He Di, looking annoyed and disappointed at the same time.

"What are you insinuating? And who do you think you are to talk to me like that?"

Wang He Di folds his arms and is about to respond when he is interrupted.

"Di, she is our client." Connor warns.

He steps back and the woman beside him scrutinizes Shen Yue with contempt.

"You don't have to be so rude. Didi is a professional and he's just worried."

"I know you?"

"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Huang Tao and I've heard a lot about you Shen Yue."

"Funny, I've never heard your name in my life." she says sarcastically.

"Tsk, you must find yourself very interesting." Wang He Di responds with a mocking smile.

Realizing that Shen Yue is starting to lose her temper, Xiao Zhan approaches and takes her hands in his.

"If you don't feel comfortable, we can postpone the variety show and hire another advertising agency."

Connor shoots a disappointed look at Wang He Di, who remains silent awaiting Shen Yue's response. He watches suspiciously the way Xiao Zhan smiles as he holds her hands.

"If you want to give up, Shen Yue, that's no problem." Huang Tao responds, putting his arm around Wang He Di's shoulder.

Shen Yue lets go of Xiao Zhan's hands and with a smirk, she turns to Huang Tao.

"You said you know me, so you should know that I'm not a woman who gives up easily. And as for you," she tells Wang He Di, "I'm aware of the type of woman you're attracted to." She shifts her eyes towards Huang Tao, then looks at him again and goes into the conference room. Connor and Xiao Zhan follow her.

Brows furrowed, he watches Shen Yue disappear down the hall. He realizes that she is a confident woman and that she doesn't allow anyone to intimidate her.

"So small and so arrogant!" he mutters.

"Did you say something?" Huang Tao asks.

Wang He Di looks at her arm around his shoulder, she understands what he is trying to say and walks away. He goes to the meeting room, leaving Huang Tao alone.

As Shen Yue enters the meeting room, she sees Jia Qi, Cheng Xiao and Annie whispering something and laughing when she sees her. She walks towards her friends, but Dee Shu stops in front of her.

"Yue, what took you so long?" Dee Shu says putting his hands on his hips, looking like an elegant mannequin in a Dior suit.

"I'll explain later." Shen Yue passes by Dee Shu and sits down with her friends.

"Are you still drunk?" Jia Qi whispers.

"Shut up!" she laughs.

"Wow!" Cheng Xiao exclaims as he sees Wang He Di enter the room.

Shen Yue rolls her eyes and Annie smiles softly.

"He's single. They say he has a bad temper." Jia Qi says.

"I believe that." Shen Yue mutters.

Suddenly, Xiao Zhan stands up, with a gentle expression, and asks, "Can we start?"

Everyone settles into their seats. Managers sit next to their celebrities. Connor sits between Xize and Kuan. Wang He Di sits next to Xiao Zhan, pretending nothing happened.

"Good morning everybody!" Xiao Zhan starts. "We are going to start the meeting by presenting the project idea. The competition is as follows, two fans participate in a competition to see who knows the idol best. The prize is to spend the day with the idol at Disney, in addition to winning some gifts."

Everyone is excited.

"Wang He Di, Wu Xize, Kuan Hong and Connor Leong are joining the team and it is of great importance that everyone gets to know each other and have a good working relationship."

Shen Yue and Wang He Di avoid looking at each other, but it's inevitable.

"I heard that W2LK does an impeccable job." Dee Shu comments.

"I'm sure you won't regret it." Wang He Di confirms.

"I hope so." Dee Shu adds.
