Yuánfèn (缘分)

Chapter 5

Shen Yue and Jia Qi are finishing up their makeup when Huang Tao enters the dressing room overflowing with arrogance.

"Genna, where's my coffee?" she asks the woman who follows her.

"Your assistant went to get it."

Huang Tao sits in a chair opposite Shen Yue and watches her in the mirror. "You know Genna, I wonder how some people who don't fit the standard of beauty manage to be a celebrity."

Shen Yue pretends not to hear what she says.

"The sun shines for everyone, Miss Huang." Genna says sympathetically.

"You're right." The woman pulls her hair into a ponytail and continues teasing. "After all, there are mediocre jobs that we don't take and someone needs to do it."

Jia Qi prepares to respond, but Shen Yue grabs her arm. "Do not do anything."

"Will you be quiet?" Jia Qi questions her friend.

"I've been arguing with a few people since I got here." she explains. "And there's someone who hasn't taken their eyes off you since you arrived..." Shen Yue waves at Xize, who is standing in the doorway talking to Dee Shu.

Jia Qi looks at him in the mirror and Xize looks away. "That's all he knows how to do."

"So you know he likes you?" Shen Yue mutters.

Jia doesn't respond and touches up her blush. Shen Yue smiles.

Xize and Dee Shu are talking and Shen Yue sees Wang He Di approach them. She watches his expressive eyes, the perfect smile and attractive neck that arouses inappropriate sensations in women.

Dee Shu enters the dressing room, greets Huang Tao who is texting someone on his cell phone, but doesn't mind answering anything. "Yue, you and Jia Qi can go." Dee Shu continues, "Annie and Xiao are finished."

"Can I make a call first?" Yue asks.

"Of course. You come with me Jia."

Dee Shu and Jia Qi exit the dressing room. Shen Yue is about to leave when she hears someone calling her. "Hey!"

Yue realizes that Huang Tao is still there too, but she is alone, without Genna's company.

"I see how you look at Didi." Huang Tao gets up and approaches Shen Yue.

"Who is Didi?" she asks disinterestedly.

With a menacing expression, Huang Tao looks at Shen Yue. "I hope you don't make the mistake of taking an interest in him."

Shen Yue frowns.

"Many women of your level have tried, but they didn't do very well."

"Is this a threat?" Shen Yue asks.

"Understand as you like." She says nonchalantly and leaves.

Shen Yue feels her blood boil at the woman's attitude, but decides not to fight back. She knows how important the image she conveys to the audience is and how Dee Shu and Xiao Zhan trust her. They have been working hard to prevent negative rumors involving her name from being posted on the internet. Confronting Huang Tao was not a good idea.

Wang He Di is in the photo studio with Xiao Zhan and Kuan, choosing some images on the laptop and giving the final instructions for the photos of Annie and Cheng Xiao. Shen Yue walks in talking to someone on her cell phone and he watches her step away from the group of people and notices that she has a dejected expression, different from when they met in the cafeteria.
