Archimedes grunts in frustration. He threw the books across the room. He felt helpless. He couldn't find anything to help Brook. The rain was making everything worse. He felt her pulse earlier and it was now slowing down. Brook pants and sweats from her forehead and chest.
Archimedes dropped to his knees in defeat. He couldn't find anything to save the girl he has been trying so hard to protect.
He feels responsible for what happened. None of this would have happened if he came to Africa in the first place. He remembers how the girl was a shell when she lived with him and it hurt him.
Now she will be an empty shell. Her once rosy cheeks were pale and her soft pink lips cracked. Her nails were purple from the lack of oxygen. Black veins completely encased the girl.
Archimedes gripped his roots and let out a strangled scream, alerting the sailors outside. He looked up to Brook and started to cry, holding on to her clammed hands.
"I'm sorry, Brook. I'm sorry for not helping you enough. I'm sorry I couldn't help you find your parents. I'm sorry for not being there for you when you needed me. I'm truly sorry," he sobs.
"...Professor," Brook whispered. He leaned over to her lips to hear her better. "...Thank...you...for protecting...me...I'm sorry you...feel this...way," she coughed.
He gasped, giving her water.
"I can't feel my body...anymore."
His eyes widened and frantically looked around. She can't leave! "Brook! Don't close your eyes!" He shook her.
"If only...I could see him...one last...time..." she took her final breath, closing her eyes.
Silence filled the air. Archimedes couldn't believe it. Tears fell from his eyes but no sound came from him."Brook? Dear, wake up."
He leaned over and gently shook her. No response.
"Brook? Brook! Open your eyes! Please!" He shouted, but no reaction came from the girl.
He sobbed as he hugged the girl to his chest. "Don't leave..."

Jane rushed back to the boat as quickly as she could with Tarzan behind her. Tarzan gripped the antidote to get back with Brook before it was too late. They spotted the ship a little far away and got on the boat, paddling to the ship.
They landed next to the ship and they both stood up.
"Hey! Hello?! Down here!" Jane shouted, waving her arms.
The men aboard rushed to the edge and spotted them. "Get the ladder!"
Jane and Tarzan jumped in anticipation to climb when Tarzan spotted a familiar blue scarf. With no time to spare, he jumped into the water. He can vaguely hear Jane's shouting but his mind was solely focused on that scarf.
