A/N this chapter is more Karl centric, will not be writing a part two at the moment

Karl's family was poor to say the least; his father had left when he was very young so he had grown up with his mother; Puffy only. Puffy was a pirate, she had somehow got knocked up at one of her stops and gave birth to Karl on water with a lot of help to her other captain Niki. Karl had seen Niki as a second mother from a young age, he had worked many jobs at their stops to be able to afford food for their small family. Puffy ended up getting pregnant three times first with Karl, then with his younger brothers Dream and Foolish and his youngest sister Drista.

They had troubles having the money to feed all six of them while still being on ship, Niki pleaded Puffy to stop sailing but she claimed she couldn't give up her passion. when Karl was just eleven years old, Dream and Foolish nine and Drista was just 5, Puffy dragged Niki into a three year expedition to investigate a large crater created by large nuke, no one knew who had set it off even 100 years later.

In the dark night when Karl was just a week from turning twelve when they left. All he found  was a note and some dark red crystals; rupees which were the currency on where they were staying.

Dear my children.

Niki and I have set sail to a dark town named Snowchester it is in the east.

We will be back in three years.

Niki convinced me to leave you some money even though we will need it for food. There are five rupees that you can use to feed you all, if you are unable to you will die. There is a lingering crow that you can call. If you do it communicates with our crow using it's echo location it will reach us.

You know that we'll answer your call.

-Captain Puffy

After this chain of events this person didn't have the right to be called mum by her children that she abandoned. Karl was crying softly, light sobs leaving his lips and salty drops landing on the letter below. He grabbed the five sharp jewels and held them in his hand. This would only be enough food for a week or less. He knew that Niki would have somehow given a clue to where she had left more, she, herself cared for the children more than their own mother. Karl flipped around the piece of paper desperately trying to find a clue. He saw in the damp corner than Niki had punctured a couple holes into the paper.

Karl had learnt to read brail from a young age, he was bilingual and during the expeditions they had run into many blind people before hand. His hand ran over the dots the felt the a couple times and came to a conclusion. the letters from his guess was reading GLOBE at the moment, but they didn't own a globe in this whole apartment. Karl then remembered that they owned a small snow globe that Niki had given to Drista when she was a young baby. It hung above her bed on the shelf as a token of appreciation.

Karl reached up and saw his five year old sister sleeping soundlessly, how was he going to break the news that their mother had left? Karl shook his head dismissing the thought. Karl grabbed the globe and spun it around squinting at the bottom seeing a small engraving by Niki.𝐹𝑜𝑜𝓁𝒾𝓈𝒽'𝓈 𝓈𝒽𝑜𝑒𝓈 it wrote and Karl carefully set the globe down and ran to see Foolish's small boots stuffed with blue, jagged, gems; Blue rupees, they were rare only found in certain ice, dark caves. Karl stood in disbelief, how Niki had enquired ten of them was a large question pining through Karl eleven year old mind.

Each blue rupee was worth 1000 smaller red rupees, this could fund them for years. Karl smiled and jumped around doing his happy dance. He heard a shuffling from behind him and saw Dream and Foolish rubbing their eyes.

"Hey guys." Karl said softly beckoning them over. He wrapped his arms around the smaller males and spoke into Dream's dirty blind hair.

"Hey we won't be seeing mum or Niki for a while." Karl said.

"Why?" Foolish asked confused.

"Their on an adventure." Karl summed up, leaving the boys to find Drista who was aggressively combing her long blond locks. Puffy had never let Drista cut her hair, saying that it waould make her warmer in the winters without a blanket. Finally with their mother gone Karl left to the kitchen grabbing some scissors. He held them up to Drista and she smiled largely.

"Really!" She shouted and held the scissors up to her hair ready to chop it to shoulder length. Karl nodded and took the scissors from her and began to snip at hair chopping it down to a neat shoulder length bob. She smiled and waved her head around gasping at the well cut hair. Karl had then gone out to get groceries, people payed high for blue rupees so he didn't dare spend any of them. All the days blended together in a neat cycle, days then blended to nights which turned into months, then to years and then they were back. Karl had spent eight of the blue rupees careful to save some for Niki. Karl was in bed just like his siblings when the dark wooden door swung open, the twins rushed out of bed along with Drista while Karl didn't bother forgive this woman for what she had done.

Soon enough they had spent all the rupees and Karl was sixteen, working three jobs trying to make enough for their family. They were all sitting at the wooden table eating dinner when Puffy said something that rocked Karl's world. They were all eating soundlessly, feeling the tension in the room. Puffy then dipped a bomb.

"Karl, you are getting married in two weeks." Puffy said as Niki cowered away guilty, Karl's mouth dropped open.

"To who?!" He asked enraged.

"A rich boy." Puffy answered shrugging and shoving a potato in her mouth.

"You don't even know his name?!" Karl said infuriated standing up and slamming his fist on the table, startling the younger ones.

"Yeah, well we have to find a way to pay for food don't we?!" Puffy said frustrated. Karl crossed his eye brows while thinking of his siblings. He nodded. After two weeks of tears shedding he was shipped off. He was in a large hoodie and some small shorts. He looked down a Drista who was now thirteen.

"You'll be okay." he whispered hugging the female as she cried heavily into his shoulder. He finally let her go and looked at the twins, now Dream was a lot taller than Foolish but Foolish's skin was slightly golden and shiny. He pulled them in sobbing.

"I'll be fine." He said to convince his siblings but he himself was unsure of his future. Both boys sobbed as Karl let go heading towards a plane that was sent to him. He dropped his luggage running to hug Niki, his mother. He ran into her arms and cried into her neck as she sobbed into his shoulders.

"Bye mum." He said walking towards the plane.

The airplane door closed and he looked out the window, there Puffy stood, he had given up calling her mum when she was nothing like one.

What would happen once he landed?
