(7) Toads Betrayel

Two days later...

Anne's Pov

Today, me and Marcy stood by each other as we listened to general Yunnan and her pupil Sasha as they teach me how to swing a sword.

First of all, I didn't sign up for this and second of all, Marcy was the one who suggested it so I may or may not have asked the two most skilful people in newtopia to teach me how to fight.

"Alright Anne, you ready?" Sasha asked.

I looked at the sword in my hand and placed my attention back to Sasha. Marcy wished me good luck before she walked away and watched me from the sidelines with Yunnan. Sasha got into her battle stance as I held my hand tightly around the handle and pointed it towards her.

Once we began, I swung my sword at her but she dodged it and placed her sword near my throat. I fell backwards and stared into the abyss of what happened before Sasha lend me her hand to help me stand up.

"Hey, you good?"

"Yeah, just a bit shocked that's all" I replied.

She gave me a nod before I took my stance again, feeling a little bit more confident than before. As we continued to train, I was starting to get better at my reflexes and attacks. I still wasn't as good as Sasha and general Yunnan, but I'll get there if I keep practicing.

We kept sparring each other until we finished our lessons for today and headed back to the castle to take a rest. Sasha gave me a punch on the shoulder for the good work I did today and I thanked her before noticing that Marcy stopped walking with us.

Me and Sasha looked at each other before she told Yunnan that we'll see her at the castle. The general understood and went ahead of us while we walked up to Marcy who was looking at the gates of the city.

"Yow, mar-mar... you okay?" Sasha asked.

Marcy turned around and gave us a look of confusion. We asked what it was and she told us that she had a gut feeling like something bad was going to happen. We stood there quietly and I asked her what made her feel like that.

She told us that her head starting hurting a few minutes ago before she felt the weird feeling in her stomach.

"Hey sasha, have you experienced Marcy like this before?" I asked.

"I haven't, it's really creeping me out" she replied.

Suddenly we heard a loud noise coming from downtown and I looked over to see what it was and saw a humongous group of toads entered the city. Why are the toads attacking the town?

"Sash?" Marcy asked.

Sasha stood there in shock and answered that she didn't know what was happening. I asked her if she recognised them and she told us that they looked like they belonged to the toad lord from the east tower.

"But there is no way uncle Bufo would order his soldiers to attack newtopia. He agreed to the peace treaty a few years back so I don't know why there would be a reason he would want to attack" she said.

We winced at the sound of screaming and we all got our weapons ready to engage. We ran towards the town and saw the horror of broken buildings, injured civilians and newt soldiers everywhere.

"Father must have known about this if his soldiers came here before us" Marcy said.

Then, a toad appeared in front of us and Sasha blocked his attack signalling me to knock him out cold using my fist. Marcy aimed her crossbow and shot the other toads surrounding us one by one completely clearing the area full of toad soldiers.
