A Thousand Years

Caroline didn't know what to actually think. It's only been a few days since Emmett left and her parents have been keeping her mind off the departure. There are times at night when she lays in bed crying for his return.

Emmett sat in his room thinking about Caroline. "Emmett..."

"I'm not talking about this." He tells Jasper. "I made a mistake. I left my mate, the love of my life behind and for what? Because people started asking questions."

"We did it so no one wouldn't search for answers..."

"I don't care!" Emmett exclaimed as he held Jasper against the wall. "I can feel Caroline's pain. She's hurt because of me. I begged her to let me stay, but she insisted that I go so no one's suspicions wouldn't arise."

"Emmett..."

Emmett ran out the door causing them all to sigh. They made a mistake living the Mikaelsons behind, but it was to keep suspicions low.

Caroline woke up to her phone ringing and answered. "Hello?"

"Hey baby."

"Emmett, what's wrong?"

"I miss you so much, baby."

Caroline started crying. "I miss you too, Em." She said wiping her tears. "I hope you all come back soon."

In Seattle, Emmett smiled as he knew she missed him as much as he did. "Baby, I want you to know that I'm not too far from you, but I need you to be with your family." He tells her. "I want you to know that I'm just a phone call away."

"I love you, Emmett. So much." She tells him as her voice started breaking. "Promise me you'll call me."

"Always." Emmett said. "Go back to bed, baby. I love you."

At Caroline's, she hung up and started crying. Celeste walked in and walked to her daughter to hug her. "It's going to be okay." She said. "Emmett won't stay gone for good. He'll be back in a month or so."

"I wished he could be here with me." She said wiping her tears. "I miss him."

"It's only been a day, Caroline." Kevin says from the door. "It will get easier. You two will talk and you have your friends." Caroline and Celeste looked at him. "Trust me. That boy is crazy about you and him leaving you behind may be the worse mistake he has ever made since being a vampire."

Caroline smiled at them as she wiped her tears. "I have to be strong." She said. "He promised to come back and...I can't sit here crying all the time because I know that is not what Emmett wants. He would want me to be string and wait for him."

"That's our girl. Now, go to sleep."

Caroline nodded as he parents left. The blonde looked out the window to the moon before falling asleep. He'll be back soon.
