"sugawara koushi? he's not on the team" mattsun was the one to answer the boy's question.
"yeah i think someone gave you the wrong info my dude" makki agreed. "we do have a sugawara akiro, not for sale just in case you wanted to know"
the boy stared at them for a solid minute and blinked, a frown visible on his face. "I see.."
oikawa and iwaizumi shared a look, it seemed like the boy was really expecting sugawara to be here. oikawa eyed him suspiciously, realisation was fast to hit him. he recognised the jacket. it was from to fukurodani.
but why was someone from fukurodani here? and if they were here for koushi then why? what was the reason?? oikawa was burning with curiosity.
iwaizumi stepped forward to reply "sugawara has probably already left. i hope you don't mind to wait till akiro shows up, he would know um sorry I did not catch your name-"
"ah! my name's akaashi, akaashi keiji. second year from fukurodani" he bowed out of respect, a small smile present on his face. it made something inside oikawa churn.
"iwaizumi hajime, I'm the vice-captain of the team the person beside me" he pointed at oikawa "is oikawa tooru, the captain of the team" oikawa flinched at the nudge, breaking off his thoughts. plastering a small smile on his face he waved at the younger.
"yahoo it's nice to be in your acquaintance akaashi-kun"
oikawa didn't miss the way akaashi's eyes slightly darkened, yet his smile didn't waver. "likewise, I've heard quite a lot about you oikawa-san"
"oh?? you've read the volleyball magazine too huh?? what position do you play akaashi-kun?" makki piqued in interest.
akaashi nodded. "precisely, yes I have. our captain really likes to shove it into everyone's faces it's hard to stop yourself from going through it." a sigh passed the boy's lips. "my position in the team is the vice-captain and official setter"
"a second year and the vice captain?? that's impressive I must say!" mattsun exclaimed, iwaizumi just as integrated nodded. "not bad for a second year"
something dark in oikawa's body formed. this boy. standing in front of him. was a second year. the vice-captain of his team. and. and a setter??
a setter.
the feeling was familiar. way too familiar. it was the same way he felt when he saw kageyama play.
no.
it was worse.
there was no envy. there was only darkness.
there was an urge. to crush the boy standing right in front of him.
to crush his team, to show him who's better. to show him who's superior. to show him-
who was better for koushi.
oikawa paused at that.
"don't call me that. don't talk to me either. don't look at me. don't- just- just don't. act like i'm not here, don't come for me again, please. i beg you. get out"
he felt pathetic. it was absurd how he still thought of being near koushi, being with koushi.
the way he wished to make up for all his past mistakes. the way he wanted to hold koushi right and tell him he deserved the world, he was loved and he was not alone.
it was all sickeningly absurd.
oikawa and akaashi's eyes met again. they were not piercing into his soul like before. they were observing him. oikawa couldn't help but chuckle internally when he saw akaashi's expression change.
