"what's with the faces? did something happen?" akiro was the first one to break the silence. since kyotani had detention today, he decided to spend his break with his friend instead of hanging with the team. sneaking into the class was not hard when the teacher was busy dozing off.

"a-ah akiro! your brother came to give you this" yahaba handed him the file. akiro stared at it, confused, what was this for again?

he gaped at the file. his project- "i'm about to face the wrath of raiden shogun" he muttered under his breath. yahaba who heard it stared at him confused. "come again?"

"akiro-chan! you're late! we just met your brother's boyfriend~" oikawa cheered, his tone did not match his face at all, and his smile didn't reach his eyes either. he was clearly pissed.

"boyfriend?" akiro wheezed out. there's no way it was true.

iwaizumi was the one to clear akiro's doubts. slapping oikawa at the back of his head, he spoke. "shittykawa's being stupid. this second year from fukurodani, akaashi keiji came here looking for him"

"sugawara-kun ended up meeting him here anyway" makki continued.

"akaashi keiji's here?" akiro jolted in surprise. looking around for confirmation.

"you know him akiro-chan?" oikawa's tone was passive. akiro internally cringed. his captain looked like they were about to have a match with shiratorizawa. or even worse maybe.

"well- no. not really. i do know they've been friends for a while now though"
it wasn't really a lie but it was. akiro was aware of his brother's friend for a while now. he did not know much about akaashi except for how he looked.

akaashi was rather pretty. or way too pretty in akiro's opinion.

hell knows, the relief akiro felt when he found out akaashi wasn't dating his brother. how sick would it be of him to simp over someone his brother is with??

"soooo, they're just- friends right??" oikawa inquired further.

"yeah, positive." akiro replied. why was his captain so interested anyway?

"why are you asking-"

"back to the gym boys!! now!!" the coach spoke loudly from a distance. approaching the gym. 

"what were you saying akiro-chan?" oikawa asked. the coach had talked over akiro and oikawa wasn't able to hear even a single word he had said.

akiro opened his mouth. no words came out this time.

he simply shook his head and walked in the direction of the gym.

"ah, so this is the famous convenience store near your school" akaashi looked around the variety of drinks.

"i can see why you like it though" he picked up an energy drink flavor and showed it to sugawara "it's my first time seeing this at a store"

"the owner is really nice here, tell him the drink you want and it'll be in the store the next day" sugawara informed him, grabbing a can for himself and the one in akaashi's hand. "i only have limited food at home right now so feel free to pick whatever"

he put a few more energy drink cans for the next few days in the basket. "or we can eat out if you want"

"no" akaashi stated firmly, crossing his arms in a sulking manner. "you'll cook for me"

"not even an hour since we met, look at this foolish man!" sugawara clutched his shirt dramatically. "asking me to cook as if i'm his slave!"

"you read too much" akaashi sighed, looking around. "people really might misunderstand"

"i'm pretty sure you already caused a lot of misunderstandings without realizing akaashi" he sighed. he remembered the way oikawa was looking at akaashi.

and sugawara clearly remembered how oikawa looked at him. sugawara knew from their past banters, how easy it was to misunderstand situations due to miscommunication.

maybe sugawara misunderstood something at the end of their relationship as well?

sugawara shook his head. there was no time for such thoughts when his friend had come to visit him all the way from tokyo.

the weekend spent with akaashi had been fun. it was refreshing, a good getaway after how sugawara's past few weeks had been. 

it would be a lie if sugawara didn't say he had a breakdown during it. ranting it out to akaashi, who already knew a few details. that was the first time sugawara had seen akaashi so pissed, so ready to fight anyone who came close to him. waru shared the same sentiment, clinging to sugawara more, following him everywhere, even to the washroom (that was probably the most surprising of all things looking at how his cat avoided going anywhere close to the bathroom). 

sugawara took a day off on monday, insisting that needs to drop akaashi at the train station and watch him leave in person.

akaashi had laughed it off, but you could tell he was happy about it. 

his weekend had been spent well.

the rest of the week was relatively uneventful for sugawara. 

however, one thing was oddly unsettling to him.

oikawa was avoiding him. 

sugawara hated to admit it, but he had gotten used to oikawa constantly looking at him in the middle of class, staring at him even. due to their seating arrangement, it was relatively easy to tell what oikawa was doing. but it seemed like oikawa hadn't caught wind of it yet, sugawara was more than thankful for that.

ever since sugawara entered the class on tuesday though, it had been a completely different case. oikawa and sugawara had awkward eye contact for barely a second before oikawa turned away, walking out of class. 

it didn't even take sugawara a day to realize, oikawa was avoiding him because of akaashi. oikawa was there when they hugged. oikawa saw them. that was probably the first time sugawara showed so much happiness ever since he joined aoba johsai and oikawa saw him expressing it to someone else.

it felt wrong. 

why would oikawa avoid him for such a reason anyway? it's not like he had feelings for sugawara anyways they broke up years ago.

maybe oikawa was just busy. his brain reasoned. 

the interhighs were starting soon, they had exams right after as well. of course oikawa was busy with those.

still, still it hurt terribly. 

had sugawara subconsciously started finding comfort in that little attention oikawa gave him throughout their day in class? 

screwed. 

sugawara was fucking screwed if that was the case.
