~Katya's POV~
I groaned as I woke up the next day in my bed, squinting my eyes at the bright light as I realized I'd forgotten to turn off the lights before I fell asleep after getting home from the party.
My neck ached as I rolled over onto my stomach and glanced over at the clock that sat on my nightstand, peering at the red numbers through squinted, sleepy eyes to see that it was already past twelve PM. I huffed and rolled away from the clock, burying my face into my pillow as I prepared to go back to sleep. However, just as I began to dose off again, I heard my phone begin to ring, startling me awake. Another groan left my lips and I grabbed my pillow, holding over the back of my head as I tried to ignore my ringing phone and fall asleep like I wanted.
Yet again, though, my phone began to ring. I sighed in annoyance and sat up, snatching my bag from where I'd left it on the floor by my bed last night, digging out my phone to accept the call.
"Kat!" I heard Saki's cheerful voice chirp into the phone as I pressed it against my ear. She sounded as chipper as ever, and that just made me want to go back to sleep even more, hoping that sleeping a bit longer would make me not feel as cranky. "Hi, Saki." I greeted inside, my voice coming out soft and tired. A soft laugh left her lips and I flopped my cheek into my pillow, not having the energy nor the will to keep my head up. "What's up?" I mumbled, wondering what she was calling me for. I'd assumed she'd be hungover today, what with how much she'd had to drink last night, but she seemed pretty fine to me.
"Oh, right." She began in a hum. "I wanted to see if you were busy. All of us are going to hang out together, and I was hoping you'd come along, if you're up for it. We're going for ice cream and then Zena said there's this place she wants to check out." She explained to me, causing me to peel open my eyes reluctantly to stare up at the ceiling. Although I didn't know what this so called place was that Zena wanted to go, I did like the sound of ice cream.
"I'd love to, but I haven't even showered yet and I don't want to hold you guys up by making you wait on me." I murmured, causing Saki to snort in amusement. "Don't be stupid." She said with a huff. "We haven't even met up yet, which is why I called to ask you now. I wanted to give you a heads up, in case you wanted to join us. If you want to go, I can come by to pick you up in an hour." She offered, causing me to sit up in bed, more than a little bit flattered that Saki had thought of me. "Well, then yes. I'll be ready in an hour." I promised, hanging up the phone with her after we exchanged our goodbyes.
As I only had an hour to get ready, I slid my way out of bed and sleepily hobbled into the bathroom to take a shower. I stepped out once I finished, wrapped in a towel when I entered my room again, feeling much more awake.
I put on my mascara and did my eyebrows before I found a pair of undergarments and pulled them on, glancing at the clock as I did so to see how long it'd be before Saki would get here to pick me up. When I saw that I only had about twenty minutes, I quickly went and blow-dried my hair in the bathroom, brushing out the dry strands once I was done. I wandered into my closet and grabbed a short blue fabric skirt and a matching blue fabric jacket that I wore over the white bralette that I put on. Lastly, I found a pair of white sneakers that I slid onto my feet, grabbing my phone and purse when I heard a knock on the front door.
As I expected, Saki was stood outside my apartment when I swung open the door, a wide smile growing on her face when my eyes met hers. "Hi!" She chirped as I stepped into the hallway, looping her arm through mine after I locked the door. The two of us began down the hall and took the elevator to the first floor, where she led me outside and to her car.
To my surprise, I found when we got there that it wouldn't be just her and I in her car, as Yosef, Cordelia, Julius, and Ichiro were already sitting in her car. It was full, causing me to cock my head to the side in confusion.
"Oh, right." Saki said, standing over by the driver's side of her car. "I forgot to tell you that you'll have to ride with Zena and Onyx since my car is full. They're right there." She told me with a smile, pointing towards a little red sports car that Zena was sitting in the driver's seat of. I blinked, glancing at the red sports car as Zena hopped out of the driver's seat and enthusiastically waved me over, so I scurried my way there, a little awed by how nice her car was. Not only was it expensive looking, but it looked so clean, as if it was completely brand new.
"Your car is so nice." I stated as I slid into the slightly cramped back-seats, as Onyx was sitting up in the passenger seat. Zena giggled and glanced at me over her shoulder, starting the car up with a rev of the engine. "Thanks." She grinned, making sure that I had my seatbelt on before she followed Saki out of the parking lot.
The ice cream shop that we went to, which I found when we arrived was called Loblolly Creamery, was a cute ice cream shop with several different flavors of ice cream. I had, shockingly enough, never been to an ice cream shop before, though mostly because we hadn't had one in our tiny town back home.
All eight of us lined up at the counter and I curiously looked through all of the flavors, while everyone else seemed to already know what they wanted, so I assumed they'd all been here before. I ended up ordering one that was called jet fuel, which tasted like espresso, caramel and chocolate, making me hum in delight as I licked the cold treat. As I was about to move away, wanting to find a table to sit down at, I heard Onyx speak for the first time when the woman behind the counter asked what he wanted. "I'll do a fresh mint chip." He muttered to her, his voice low and husky.
I was taken aback at the sound of his voice, how gravelly it sounded, and by the way I shivered slightly at the sound of it. Of course, though, I blamed my shiver on the coldness of the ice cream and took a seat at a table that Zena was sitting at by herself. She smiled at me when I sat, crossing one leg over the other as she took a bite from her ice cream. "Hi, Kat." She chirped, causing me to return the friendly smile.
"Hello." I greeted her quietly, glancing up in surprise when Onyx suddenly came and sat down beside Zena at our table. His hazel eyes flicked over to my face when he sat, our eyes meeting as I peered at him silently, not having expected him to sit with us. Zena sent him a smile and he just grunted, eating his ice cream silently.
While I licked at my own ice cream, I couldn't help but to let my mind wander, taking occasional glances at Onyx when I knew nobody would see me doing so. He seemed very grumpy, as Zena had told me he was, and certainly like the quiet type seeing as he didn't really talk very much. Even Yosef, who also didn't talk too often, seemed to say more than he did and engaged more with everyone than him. Maybe it's just because I'm here. Zena did say that he wasn't very good with people, after all.
Zena gently nudged my knee with hers, breaking me out of my thoughts and causing me to look over at her, curiously cocking my head to the side. She laughed and pointed to my ice cream. "Your ice cream is going to melt all over your sleeves, if you're not careful." She teased, causing me to look down and realize that it was beginning to melt rather quickly. "Oh." I gasped, licking up the ice cream that was melting almost onto my fingers.
I began to eat my ice cream, pushing my wandering thoughts away. "So," I began, glancing at Zena. "Saki said there was someplace you wanted to go after this?"
