TaylorIt happens so slowly I contemplate if I'm dreaming or not. I don't know why I do it, but after I kiss him he freezes for a good ten seconds and there's nothing happening but the chirping from a bird that's landed on Rhea's balcony. It isn't until he pushes hair out of my eyes that I remember I was supposed to be asking him something.
"Kaden." It comes out as more of a statement than a question. Lucifer blinks for the first time in forever.
"What about him?" He takes on a tone I haven't heard from him yet, one that stirs something in me. He is a mixture of nervous and....protective?? Whatever it is, it's fucking hot.
"He is a Nephillim?"
Lucifer tenses up, the wheels in his head turning- and I realize I may have made a mistake in bringing it up. Another sensitive subject, I decide. "Who told you?"
"Nobody." I shrug, finally sitting up so we can be eye-level. "I figured it out on my own.... based on a conversation I had with his mother a few months ago."
"Hmn."
"Lucifer. Nobody snitched."
"No, it's not that I don't believe you but-" he says quickly, stumbling over his words. "I'm just wondering whether his mother knew or not, and if she did-"
"She did. The more I thought about it, the more obvious it became." I say. "And then I started thinking about how different his life could have turned out if he'd known. That maybe... he wouldn't have been such a shitty person..."
"Knowing that one has Angel DNA doesn't automatically change who they are." Lucifer smiles. "You are still the same person you were last week. It would have been the same with Kaden."
"I don't feel like the same-"
"But you are. You are still beautiful and smart and kind to animals and you still don't know if you want to be a veterinarian, coroner or forensic scientist-" He stops himself before digging a hole too deep to get out of and gulps. Jesus even that it hot-
"And just how do you know about my inability to choose a career?"
"Some.... Classic Instagram stalking." He admits, his voice barely above a whisper. "You posted some pictures in UNY's forensics lab so I... called in a favor with their Univeristy Head to get a peek at your student file. Sorry. I know that's creepy but-"
"You are the devil." I shrug. "I suppose I'll let you get away with it just this once."
He tenses up again. "Lucifer. I'm not particularly fond of 'the devil' title."
"Right I'm...." My face turns beet red. "I'm sorry I should've thought about that more... with it being used against you for thousands of years...."
"I suppose I'll let you get away with it just this once." He says, placing a hand on the side of my cheek. The other arm loops around my waist, making contact with the bare skin underneath my shirt that's just a little too short. "Why has the stalking not made you run away screaming? I've heard human women are not fond of it."
"I'm sure the stalking is nothing compared to some of the things you've done." I say, cringing the second the words come out of my mouth. "But if I'm being honest..... I've rewatched YOU one too many times."
"I don't understand.... You've been watching me?"
"No it's.... It's a show on Netflix." I sigh. Of course. Why would the devil have enough free time to watch Netflix? Dumbass.
