Hookers on street corners, police every where, kids with snotty noses and dingy clothes playing outside, and broken up sidewalks. Prodigy was now in the hood of L.A. He pulled up to an apartment building that looked run down, it had chipped concrete stairs that lead up to the rusty screen door that creaked when it opened, and right next to it was a set of doorbells for each apartment. It was hard to read, some addresses were scratched off or almost scratched off, some were wrote with marker which didn't really help. Prodigy pressed the button that he guessed said A7, he waited awhile until a buff black guy with a doo-rag answered the door. "What you here for?" he said in a deep voice, "I'm looking for Chad." Prodigy said trying not to feel intimidated.
The big guy motioned his head for Prodigy to come in and lead him up to the third floor. The building smelled like piss, behind a door you could hear two people arguing, behind another you could here a baby screaming, it was nothing Prodigy was ever use to. They stopped infront of the door that read "A7" in brass letters, the big guy gave what Prodigy could tell was a secret knock and someone from the inside knocked right back. Which ment they could enter, as soon as Prodigy stepped through the door smoke rushed to his face. He was confused by all the smoke until he heard a familiar voice. "Who is that?" the voice said, Prodigy turned towards the voice and saw Chad. "It's Prodigy," he responded.
"Oh, well what you want rich boy?"
Prodigy walked over to where Chad was, Chad was on the couch while three dudes were in lawn chairs passing the blunt around. "Sit." Chad commanded, Prodigy sat on one of the open lawn chairs. Chad looked at him, scoping him as if he was not the son of a famous actress and musician, "So what you need? I thought you ain't fuck with my kind." Prodigy rubbed his hands together out of nervousness, "I was... I was thinking about... your offer."
Chad took the blunt, gave it a puff, shook his head and said, "Ah-ha, so now you need it. I knew you would! All people livin' a high life like you use it all the time. I knew you would try it one day." Chad took one more puff and handed it to Prodigy, "Hit this for a minute while I go get it." Prodigy was hesitant but took it anyway, he gave a long drag and choked. All the guys in the room began to laugh, Chad came back as Prodigy passed the blunt. In his hand was a bag of white crystals, he set it on the table and asked, "So how much you need?"
"I don't know, maybe half."
Chad began to put half of the crack into another bag but in the middle of doing so, he turned to Prodigy and asked, "Do you even got the tools for this?"
"What tools?"
Once again the men laughed, "My nigga," Chad stated, "You expect me to give you this and you don't even know how to use it?" Prodigy shrugged. "Look, I'll give you the tools and tha crack but its gon' cost. But money shouldn't be a problem for you huh rich boy?"
"How much?"
"$89"
"$89? For some crack?"
"Actually, the crack is $40, the pipe is $10, and $38 for tax."
Prodigy was outraged, that much for some crack? No wonder crackheads stole so much! Chad gave him the bag with the pipe and Prodigy gave him the money. He hid the bag in his coat poket and headed for the car, he got in the car but didn't turn it on. He just sat there and thought. What am I doing?
*Meanwhile*
Princeton, Ray, Zoe, and Roc were driving all around L.A. calling Prodigy's phone non-stop. They had no success, it was 10:48am when they left and now it was 6:36pm. Where the hell was Prodigy? Princeton layed on the couch with his head in his hands, this was just to much. "He'll come back," Roc said, "I'm sure of it."
"That nigga better come back!" Ray said, "He got my damn car!"
"If something happens we're dead!" said Princeton. "Guys," Zoe said, "Lets just breathe. Roc's right, he'll be back." Roc felt happy when Zoe said that, he usually is called stupid by Ray if he opens his mouth to say something. Someone finally listened! Then Zoe sat next to Princeton and started rubbing his back, and Roc felt like nothing again. Suddenly the front door opened and in stepped Prodigy, everyone jumped up and ran to him. "Where were you?" asked Princeton, "We were looking every where for you!" Ray pushed his way through, "Where the hell is my car?!" he said.
"It's in the front." Prodigy responded. He was about to go past the group to go upstairs until Ray grabbed him by his shirt, "Go put it back!" Ray growled. Prodigy pushed Ray's hand off, "Who the hell do you think you're talking to?"
"This dumb ass that keeps fucking shit up!"
"Eh, look! Quit trying to get big little nigga!"
"Quit fucking shit up and maybe I wouldn't!"
"Guys," says Roc, "Please stop fighting!"
Ignoring Roc, Prodigy continues, "Oh! And you sooo perfect! Everyone in this house is just perfect and dandy and Prodigy is the biggest fuck face in the world!"
"Guys stop!" Princeton said, "Look he's home now and as long as he didn't do anything wrong it's okay."
"NO IT'S NOT! HE KEEPS DOING STUPID SHIT AND I AM SO SICK AND TRIED OF IT. MOM AND DAD CALLED TODAY AND GOT ON MY BACK FOR HIM ACTING WILD AND CRAZY YESTERDAY, WE JUST SPENT EIGHT HOURS LOOKING FOR HIM SO WE DIDN'T GET IN TROUBLE, AND HE JUST DISAPPEARS WITH MY CAR! I'M DONE WITH IT, FIX YOUR SHIT PRODIGY!"
Ray began to walk upstairs and Prodigy lunged toward him but was stopped by Princeton, "Look. Just please never do that again and put his car back-"
"What?" Prodigy said outraged, "You're on his side?"
"I don't choose sides I just don't want anymore drama, not this week."
Prodigy clenched his jaw and shook his head, Princeton turned to Roc and said, "Roc, I'm taking Zoe home. Make sure they don't kill each other." Roc nodded and Princeton went to the garage with Zoe on his arm. Roc became mad, noticing that Prodigy was mad he said, "Hey, you wanna go to the gym? It helps me with my anger." Prodigy was about to say yes but then he remembered his "package" that was in his jacket, "Um, let me change and I'll meet you there." Prodigy went upstairs, took out the bag of crack, and held it in his hand for a while. I'll use it when I need it, he thought, Do I need it now? Should I've even bought this? He hid it in his drawer behind his socks, changed into his sweats and went to the gym.
