Bad Day at Black Rock (1)
Kylie's POV
The room was filled with silence, the only sound coming from Sam's lips as he slept peacefully. I watched his muscular chest rise and fall with each breath, his brow furrowed as if he was having a very intense dream. I couldn't help but wonder what haunted his nightmares.
Was it Jessica? Was it the clock ticking down to the final moments of Dean's life?
"Kylie, it's two in the morning." A groan came from his lips yet his eyes remained closed.
"Can't sleep." I mumbled, my arm going beneath the crinkly motel pillow.
"So you watch me instead?" He let out a breathy laugh, turning over on his side to face me. He lifted his head to look over my shoulder at the empty bed. The one that Dean was supposed to be sleeping in.
"He's not back yet?" The younger Winchester asked as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
I shrugged, trying to pretend like I wasn't up all night awaiting his arrival. "I guess not. Not my problem."
Sam nodded, his tongue peaking out to trace along his cracked lower lip. "You're right it's not your problem." He shrugged. "But if we're going to share the same bed every night until you and Dean resolve your issues-"
"Issues?" I scoffed.
"Yes issues. God, it's almost like I'm in high school again with the amount of drama you two have."
I leaned up on my elbow, taking the pillow that held my head and smacked Sam in the face with it. "I swear to God, you Winchester boys are trying to make me hate you." I sat up, reaching for one of the hoodies I had discarded early on the floor to cover up from the chill in the air.
A large hand encircled itself around my elbow and pulled me back down in my spot, my eyes locking with Sam's. "All I'm saying is if you and Dean are going to continue biting each others head off, and that we're going to share a bed. I need a little sleep." His hold on my arm became gentle, his thumb rubbing soft circles on my skin. "And you need sleep too. I know you have been trying to survive on caffeine pills and anxiety for the past couple of days."
"I'm fine." I mumbled defensively.
Sam smiled. "How are you going to kick Dean's ass if you're falling apart."
I let out a heavy sigh. "I hate when you're right."
"You must hate me a lot then." Sam smirked.
"Whatever ass." I rolled on my back. "I'm going to try and get some sleep."
There was a pause, but I could tell there was still a hidden tension in the air.
"Ky?"
"Hm?" I groaned softly, my eyes closed.
"I think I can find someone to help us out of Dean's deal."
My eyes popped open wide, my body flinging itself forward in shock.
"What did you just say?"
Sam was hesitant, his tongue pressing against the inside of his cheek before he sat up, not as quickly as I did. He took his time as if he was unsure on whether he should continue or not.
"Her name is Ruby." He said softly
"Sam, I don't care what her name is." I shook my head and hurried to get out of bed, finally able to put the hoodie on over my cold body. "Where is she? Why isn't she here now? Why are we wasting time?"
Sam was silent, watching as I moved across the room to my bag packing it up as quickly as possible.
"Kylie-"
