Beach mishaps

Crap. That's precisely what I thought when I looked down at my bare feet and the one sandal in my hand.

I had lost it. Again.

I looked around, carefully inspecting the beach in hope of finding my lost shoe. My hands were above my head, guarding my eyes from the sun since I had also misplaced my sunglasses two days beforehand.

To be honest, I don't know how I manage it. Every week, I find that something new has disappeared and every week my parents get a little bit more annoyed at me. The thing is, I honestly do try to keep track of things. I leave notes, I tell other people where I have left my stuff, I keep an eye on everything I touch- yet things still go missing.

So that's how I ended up wandering around for about half an hour on a beach an hour away from my house and still only had one sandal on.

"What you looking for?" I heard a voice say. I jumped back in shock and spun around. A boy around my age with icy blue eyes was giggling at my reaction.

"You scared me!" I half-shouted, laughing as well.

"Oi! It isn't my fault you're so easily scared! Plus you weren't paying attention!" He said, holding up his hands in defence. He smiled at me, showing me that he was just joking.

"Still! You can't just walk up to random people and scare them! And you didn't even say sorry," I said, raising my eyebrows.

"Well I'm sorry," he said, honestly.

"Jerk..." His mouth dropped open and he hit me playfully before giggling.

"Hey! I said sorry!" He exclaimed, causing me to shrug. This time it was him to raise his eyebrows at me.

"Only joking, you are forgiven whoever the hell you are," I said, smiling.

"I'm Hayes, and you are?" He replied, holding out his hand in a mocking way.

"I'm Skyler, great to meet you Hayes," I said, shaking his hand in return.

"And it's great to meet you Syler. But you still haven't answered my question," he said, returning to normal,"what are you looking for?"

I pointed down to my feet and Hayes soon realised what was missing.

"How the hell do you loose one shoe?" He said, cracking up.

"I don't know! All I know is that I can't find it!" I answered, sighing at my bad luck.

"Well it's your lucky day Skyler because I so happened to find one shoe earlier," he told me, I stared at him in disbelief. For once, I was going to find something.

"Seriously? You actually found my sandal?" I asked, trying to read his facial expression to tell if he was lying. He nodded and I leaped forward pulling him into a hug. I held him tight until I realised we had only just met. Quickly pulling away, we both stood there blushing madly.

"I'll take you to it if you agree to one thing," he said. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"And what's that?" I asked him curiously.

"You go on a date with me."

"So you're blackmailing me?" I questioned, laughing.

"Yep and I'm not giving your shoe back until you say yes," Hayes demanded.

"Fine then," I agreed and he began to walk my over to where my shoe was laying on the sand.

"By the way Hayes, you didn't have to blackmail me. I would have said yes anyway."
