"Does he take care of you, or could I easily fill his shoes?"
"Excuse me," I hear from a few people away, halting me in place. It's not what they said, or how they've said it, but who has said it. A voice I'll never forget for as long as I live. It's confirmed as he walks by, completely oblivious to my presence in the room. He collects his phone, before disappearing into the night, alone.
Should I run after him? Maybe say hello? Or would it be too inappropriate to do so?
I remain rooted in place, and let the moment pass. Had I seen him earlier on in the night, I would have politely said hello, but this isn't the right time or moment. As much as I'm happy and have moved on, it's still such a bizarre concept to see your ex in person, despite the space of time that has passed. This is someone you would greet with kisses, someone you would share secrets with. You know their body better than your own, yet you're expected to converse in a cordial manner, ensuring you remain affable on the surface, despite the horrible things you've called each other when backs were turned. I'm not at all surprised that he's shown. I mean, Celia Wright runs in many circles within the industry, and Harry was bound to know her through somebody.
