Six

Jay pov

My eyelids slowly pried themselves open, and I rubbed the sleep from them. Then I noticed I was in a different bed in a different room. I looked around until my eyes fell on the young man figure that was named Declan next to me, and I saw our legs entwined and his arms around me. I sighed while closing my eyes again, as if trying to create a different picture when I opened them, but of course, it hadn’t changed one bit.

I couldn’t believe I did something like this. I had promised myself I wouldn’t do it until I was married or I was completely in love with a guy, and I broke that promise. Why? Oh, that’s right. I had just had that burning desire last night…and I still felt it. Now why was that? I was going to feel so awkward around him when I was Jay again, though not for him of course.

I searched for a clock and found one beside him. Shit! It was a school day, and school began in ten minutes! Shit! I sprung out of the bed and grabbed my clothes, carelessly putting them on, and I heard Declan wake. “Where are you going, Caitlin?”

Aw, his voice sounded hurt; maybe I could com… Focus Jay! “I got school today, and I’m gonna be late. Maybe we’ll see each again. Bye!”

I felt terrible and like a total slut for just leaving him there, naked, in his bed with a desperate look in his eyes. But I had school! I jumped in my car, zoomed to my room, changed to regular clothes, sped to school, and arrived just barely in time for first hour. That was a lucky break.

Declan pov:

I had startled awake when suddenly there was cold air where Caitlin should have been, and I had found her rushing out. She seemed a little pained to leave, but she had left…for school, so it was okay. It didn’t mean she didn’t want me or to see me; she even said we could possibly see each other again. I was going to have to ask Jay for her number, though he may be pissed at that.

I had to get to my half brother, Ethan’s, place in the afternoon, in a few hours, so I just dressed casually, jeans and grey tee. Once it was time, which had passed all too slowly, I headed out, arriving at Ethan’s a few minutes later from what I should have. Ethan greeted me outside with a man hug. “Half brother, good to see you again. Some party last night, eh? Hey, by the way, where did you run off to?”

I grinned and laughed a bit. “Uh…I had started out dancing with Jay’s sister, but, uh…” I didn’t, or wanted, go on because I knew Ethan would understand. He smiled and patted me on the back. “Atta boy, Declan. She’s hot. Now, as a newcomer, let’s go introduce you to the guys.”

He led me in his warehouse and started introducing me to all kinds of dudes in his pack. They were all interesting, and we stayed awhile with the boosters, which is what I was going to be in. Finally, we were meeting the mechanics. I shook hands with Toni while Ethan looked around. “Hey Toni, where’s Jay? He should be here.”

“I just saw him. He was right here,” Toni replied, looking confused. He searched around him until he laughed, and then Ethan and I joined him to see what he was laughing at. Two black sneakers were lazily lying out from under a sweet car. Toni hit them with his foot, and then the feet shot up and there was a metal bang and a, “Shit!”

Ethan called, “Hey Jay, why don’t you come out from hibernation and meet my half brother?”

Jay, wearing loose and smudged grey tee and washed jeans, slid out from the car and got up on his feet, rubbing his forehead. “Hey, I didn’t get enough sleep, and it’s hard for me not to fall asleep under the engine of a car. It’s relaxing.”

Ethan and Toni laughed while I stared at Jay’s covering black cloth and beanie. Toni whistled as his eyebrows rose. “Hey Jay, what’s that on your neck?”
