The car hums lowly as the comfortable warmth makes me tired.

The vibrating of my phone in my pocket pulls my attention.
It's Eve.

'Hey sis. I have a suggestion.'
'Alright...?'
'I was thinking... you don't mind staying with Lando for a night right?'
I look at Lando who glances at me as well.
'Uhm, no I don't. But what are you going to do?'
'Well Jon and I are still out. It will be late when we're back, so it's better to stay at their hotel and meet back up for breakfast.'

I look at Lando who grins, being able to hear my sister speak as well.
'Alright, if you're sure.'
'I am. So see you tomorrow?'
'Sure thing. Goodnight then.'
'Night!'

I hang up and fall quiet before looking at Lando.
He's been quiet and a little upset since we got into the car, but he smiles lightly.
'So you'll stay?'

'If you want me to.'

We step into the elevator, light inside orange and inviting.
Lando pushes the right button and the door closes.
I catch him moving his shoulders as he rubs his chest.
Nervous and uncomfortable.
It's a habit of his.

'You okay?' I ask as I turn to him.
'Yeah, fine.' His unconvincing smile says differently.
I straighten his jacket before patting his arm being done on que for the door to open at the right floor. The silence as we walk through the maze like hallway grows as Lando's emotions weigh heavier.

The soft beep of the key card unlocking the door lets us inside.
The room is as we left it, a little messy, but nice.

'Lando, talk to me.'
He kicks off his shoes.

'I could have had that. I could have won.'
He sits down on the bed and rubs his face.
'I was so close, but that one stupid fucking mistake.'
His hands drop down into his lap.
'What if they now think I'm not good enough?'

The question is spoken quietly, hands fidgeting with his watch.
It break my heart to hear him say something like that.
'You won pole in qualifying yesterday.'
He scoffs 'and I fucked up today, they must think I'm a joke.'

I walk over, but he stands up and walks further away, so I leave some space between us by leaning against the wall next to the bathroom door.

'They won't.'

'Oh yeah? I made one hell of a stupid call, throwing away my first win, nearly crashing the car, and disappointing not only fans, but the entire team as well. I ruined everything today.'

His voice breaks at the last two words.
'Lando Please...'

He turns around, meeting me with tears and frustration.
'Don't try to talk this better. You won't help.'

I stand across the room from a man I took a liking too,
completely left at a loss after his words.

He sniffles and roughly wipes his eye with his sleeve as he turns around.
'If I can't do anything to help, then let me give you some space. Is it okay if I take a quick shower?'

'Sure.'
