The moment had come. Alex had excused herself into her burrow and wished Marinette luck with the announcement. It was the signal for Marinette that her crazy plan was probably the right one. Poor Alex was the one who really never got to be surprised very often.

So Marinette took a long look at this room full of her friends and family. And she finally let herself look at young Adrien, cuddling Remi again. Smiling at Daxten. Peeking affectionately at Luka's little baby carrier full of the darling Emmanuelle. She saw how he watched the fathers in the room, and empathised painfully for him.

It was time. If she didn't, Marinette knew the miraculous would respond to her Adrien's heart's desire and spoil everything.

Marinette tinkled her glass and stood in front of the windows, where everyone could see her.

A hush fell over the merry group, and the smiles she saw there dazzled and twinkled and sparked love in her heart. She was asking them to celebrate with Adrien very specifically now, and she no longer felt disappointed for herself.

"I called us together to surprise Adrien. It's so strange that this was all planned so carefully, only to have him surprise us by having known this was coming all along!"

Everyone laughed, and some of them tapped Adrien's leg or pat his shoulder. Adrien grinned in happy bewilderment.

"It's more strange to make this announcement on his behalf. Because I know--" Marinette's voice cracked a little, fudging the details of an emotional thing like this, knowing everyone but Adrien would completely see the truth. "I know, how Adrien wanted to announce this to us himself--that's why he let me carry on and plan this party, even though he figured it out! He's terrible at putting this stuff together on his own, you know."

Here several people laughed, and Adrien figured it was likely true. He didn't have a lot of experience throwing parties.

"But the Adrien with the news can't tell us now, and he's made it clear I should do it for him." Marinette waved the little scrap of note paper with Adrien's handwriting on it. It was a note to her parents about getting flour from Dominique.

"Adrien wants everyone to know... he's expecting their first baby in the new year."

The room erupted! Luka and Nino hugged Adrien from both sides, while Adrien held Remi carefully in his lap. He was shocked.

"I'm going to be a father?"

Luka laughed, "Well, in a few years, yes."

Nino ruffled Adrien's hair fondly. "You'll have plenty of time now to get ready. I think you'll need it!"

And everyone laughed and hugged, whooped and sang.

And everyone made sure to hug Marinette discretely and whisper in her ear.
