The succession ceremony was to take place soon, once Hatter's body had been moved allowing everyone a moment absorb the unexpected, unanticipated and unpredicted extinction of Hatter that the ceremony would begin for the next leader. It was all happening ever so quickly but that was the decision of the militants who had obviously been set on the fact that Aguni needed to be the leader as soon as possible, they were desperate to have ruled the beach with their dystopian views... so desperate to feel power, desperate for Aguni to rule before anyone could oppose the decision.
But I was sure that even as I sat with Kuina, Arisu, Usagi and Chishiya in my bedroom with the entire scenario that had previously occurred I wouldn't be able to go to the ceremony in my right mind simply because of the shock that wrapped so tightly around every single one of my muscles, emotions and veins, I was almost built off of nervousness as I sat in silence.
Despite the company I was alone in my head, trapped there unforgivably.
"Hatter's really dead?" Whispered Kuina, shocked, her voice was all but a mere squeak in the tenseness surrounding the group.
Just like Usagi the other females had been riddled with their own sense of confusion, speechless, bewilderment and most importantly they were afraid.
Afraid of what would happen to their lives and the many others.
Chishiya had nodded, humming, his eyebrows raised, "He's dead, the militants have won the beach" And his voice was monotone, almost as if he had expected the events to occur.
Everyone had; just not so quickly.
"Seriously?" Whispered Usagi, she was nervous now and that uncertainty shone behind her dark brown eyes, she glanced towards Arisu for some sort of help or conformation that everything was going to be okay but he couldn't provide it to her... even he was unsure of their safety now. "What are we going to do?"
"This is advantageous to us" Chishiya said, a small smile on his face... a smile full of his own self satisfaction.
An idiosyncratic smile in the atmosphere.
"It is?" I muttered, shaking my head. "I really don't think you're thinking straight right now" I offered.
There hadn't been any correlations between Hatter's death and the opportunity to snatch every card the beach owned... in actuality I saw it as a more disadvantage than a positive merely because those surrounding Aguni were more powerful, it was almost as if the cards had extra levels to finally reach them; the battle between The last boss' blade and unusual lingering presence, Niragi and his violence as he hauled the gun over his shoulder so freely and the new leader himself with such an intimidating frame bigger than Hatter's had ever been and such a tremendous unrivalled strength. In my eyes all of those had contributed to our new failure with the mission.
"My Y/n, my dear y/n... look at the bigger picture here!" And he had smiled once again, his smile grand, and for a moment - once again - I was sure I saw a small drop of Hatter behind his actions, tone of voice, his words. "We have the opportunity to attend the ceremony and that gives us the chance to figure out just where the cards are"
"How are you going to do that if you can't see it?" Managed Usagi softly, "You won't be able to see it... right?" She asked, obviously still unsure as to just what was going to happen within the ceremony.
We hadn't truly indulged in just what the ceremony was like but instead the discussion had been ever so brief.
"You're right" Chishiya announced, and he had looked at me, brushing back his silver hair, his slim fingers wiping over his head, "But I know how to see it, how to figure it out"
