Author notes at the end

Obi-Wan ran to the cockpit as the ship rose out of the planet's atmosphere, and skidded to a stop, finding a girl in the pilot's seat. He kept a hand on the hilt of his lightsaber.

"Hello there," he said tentatively.

"My apologies Master Jedi," she said, not looking up. She ran a hand across her nose, "Just give me another moment to set the coordinates for lightspeed."

Obi-Wan watched her fiddling with the controls. She didn't seem particularly confident in calculating jumps so he stepped up to the keypad she was using. He brushed her hand away gently, "Allow me,"

The girl slid aside and let the man work.

Several tense seconds after getting into hyperspace Obi-Wan turned back to her. He finally got a decent look at her, seeing how her bright blue eyes were red and puffy. Not to mention the way she kept wiping at her face.

"I have some questions," he said softly.

She nodded, pushing her hair away from her face, "I...My name is Lore-Val Kryze. I request to speak before the Republic senate to clear the Duchess of any slander that was brought against her."

"Kryze. Are you another sister?"

"No," Lore-Val stood straighter, folding her hands neatly behind her back, "I am the Duchess' daughter."

"Daughter?" Obi-Wan whispered to himself, "Who is...oh."

Lore-Val nodded, watching the floor while he looked her over. She had Satine's nose and lips on a face that looked a heck of alot like his. Her hair was the same color as his where it hadn't yet begun turning grey.

There was no denying it, she was his.

"I," he found himself speechless, his stomach in knots,"I had no idea."

His comm flashed.

Obi-Wan?

With his eyes not leaving his daughter (his daughter!?) he swallowed and raised his wrist, "Anakin, I'm on my way back to Coruscant."

The Duchess?

"I'm afraid not."

We'll send a rescue party. I don't care what the council or the senate say, Rex is here and he's already-

"No Anakin. It's...too late for a rescue."

A pause.

I'm sorry Obi-Wan.

"I have a bit of a situation," Obi-Wan said, still watching the girl standing at attention across the bridge, "Tell Master Yoda I need to meet with the council as soon as I arrive."

I'm on it.

Obi-Wan wondered suddenly if Lore-Val had known her mother was dead. It hurt just to think about a world without Satine but now he was living it. He shook his head, Lore-Val, he needed to focus. This girl didn't know him, and if he had just told her that her mother died...

"Did she suffer?" Lore-Val asked near silently, pulling him from his thoughts.

"It was quick," Obi-Wan answered, not wanting to tell her the whole truth.

"And the others? Is Korkie all right? And Bo-Katan?"

"Bo-Katan brought me here. And Korkie is the Duchess' nephew?" He waited for her anxious nod, "I'm afraid I don't know."

Tears were leaking from the girl's eyes that she tried wiping away, a sob escaped her and she pressed a hand to her mouth, "I'm sorry. I... Dank Ferrik," she whispered.

Obi-Wan didn't know what to do. Crying teenagers were not his forte. He reached out a hand and went to place it on her shoulder, but she dropped down to the floor.

She balled herself tight, nearly climbing under the console. Obi-Wan sighed and sat next to her, stretching his legs in front of him. He leaned his head back and did his best to handle his own racing thoughts.

He swallowed down the bile trying to make its way up his throat. Everything in him felt tight. He turned his head to Lore-Val, she was at that awkward part of childhood, all limbs that he doubted she knew how to use. That meant he had missed, maybe thirteen years of this girl's life. He should be angry. Angry that Satine had never told him, that he'd spent those years raising a child for the order when he could've been raising his own. He should be angry, but he wasn't. Maybe he would be later, but right now he was just so...he found himself unable to name the feeling burning its way through his chest.

He took a deep breath and looked up at the whirl of hyperspace allowing the star flares to hypnotize him into an uneasy rest.

Author's Note:
Surprise! It's a girl!
So far I think this is the only part I've had someone else read over for me, hopefully we didn't miss to many crazy mistakes. I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. I can't promise an update date, but keep a look out. Hopefully this story will get some love and I'll keep sharing rather than chickening out.
