We split up and looked at each other, and then everyone else started hugging, and Ben grabbed a hold of me, giving me a huge bear hug. Reed and Sue got a hold of me again, and we just all sighed in relief.

“So, I guess this is it,” Ben said. “We all go our separate ways.”

             “No,” Reed said.

            “No?” I asked.

            “No,” Sue said.

“If it wasn’t for the team, the whole world would be gone by now,” Reed said.

“We can’t run away from our responsibilities and the people we need to protect,” Sue said. “It’s who we are.”

“That’s what I’ve been saying,” Johnny said.

“What about having a normal life, a family?” Ben asked.

“Who said you have to be normal to have a family?” Reed said, and grinned at me. I grinned back.

“So, Maggie, Johnny, what was that back there?” Sue asked knowingly.

Johnny and I looked at each other like guilty children. Jigs up.

“Oh, you know, a relationship that, um, you know, we’ve had for what, two years now?” I asked, looking at Johnny.

“Two years,” he said, nodding, putting an arm around my waist.

“You guys have been in a relationship,” Sue said. “For two years.”

            We nodded.

“How the hell did we not notice?” Reed asked.

“Well, you guys were focused on the wedding, and it’s many attempts,” Johnny said.

“And Ben, he’s was always out with Alicia, or off somewhere in the building with Alicia,” I said. “We kind of played off that. I mean, we weren’t perfect, nearly caught so many times.”

“So many times,” Johnny said. “But you guys just couldn’t take the cake.”

I hit him, and he grinned at me.

“Is this a prank?” Ben asked. “This has to be a prank. No way we wouldn’t have noticed for two years.”

“Ask Alicia or Matt,” I told him. “They were the only ones who knew. Justin probably knows to, but he never told me if Matt told him. We usually nerd out when we talk anyway.”

            “Alicia?” Ben asked.

“Yeah, she was, shockingly, the only one who caught us. Which is ironic, if you think about it,” Johnny said. I rolled my eyes.

“But you guys are always fighting, and yelling at each other, and storming off powers at full…” Reed said trailing off. “Oh.”
