Chapter 13: Family Reunion

(continuing from where we left off.....)

(JJ's POV)

My heart just dropped into my stomach.
Why is she here?
I haven't seen her since I was 5 years old.
Why is she here?
The day she left was the day my dad started hitting me.
Why is she here?
She never cared to be there before so why now?
Why is she here?

"What are you doing here?" I asked in a low tone
"Oh my god JJ you are so big now!"
"Yeah well it's been 11 years mom of course im going to look different."
She didn't speak, neither did Kie.

"Why are you here" I asked again
"I missed you J."
bullshit.

I saw Kie tense up in the corner of my eye. She let out a faint sigh.

"Why are you here."
She took a deep breath then said
"Child service rang me saying that your father had disappeared and I was the your only guardian and in order to keep you away from foster care, I would have to come back to Outer Banks to live with you."
For fuck sake.

"I don't need you."
"Come on J you don't mean that."
"I haven't needed you for the past 11 years mom."
"Well im here now."
"But you weren't here when I was 5"
"I know and-"
"You weren't here when dad beat the shit out of me for just looking at him. You weren't here when I went to jail overnight, you weren't here when my best friend and his girlfriend were presumed dead, you weren't here when dad got sent to jail or when he escaped and left me here."
"But JJ I'm going to try and be there now just give me a-"
"YOU WEREN'T FUCKING HERE"

(Narrator POV)

JJ with tears pouring down his face, left and walked out and back to the car,
"It was nice meeting you, I think." Kiara said giving JJ's mom a smile.
"Who are you?" She asked
"His girlfriend." Kie left his mom and sat in the car. She was in the passenger seat and JJ had his hands on the wheel trembling.

"Here J let me drive." She said politely and softly
"No Kie i'm ok."
"No you're not come on I know a safe place."
"Fine."

JJ was pretty quiet for most of the ride, Kie was driving in the cut, She placed her hand on the back of JJ's placing a soft kiss.

"Kiara, why are we at the beach?"
"Just wait ok i'm about to show you."
They hoped out of the car and walked along the beach.
"We're almost there I promise." Kiara knew JJ was getting bored and tired.

JJ and Kiara made it to this cave sort of place at the beach and it was covered with vines.

"Do you trust me?" She asked
"Shut up" he grabbed her hand and she guided them through the cave, once you get past the vines you find this little patch of grass with a hammock, bench with pillows and blankets.

"Holy shit Kie where did you find this place?"
"I've been coming here since I started at the Kook Academy. Worst year of my life."
"Why did you come here during that time."
"I hated life, every girl at school was a complete bitch to me just because I would rather fish on the marsh and drink beers then go shopping and gossip. Every guy just saw me a piece of meat, shit I mean I found on one of the guys phone in my class they had a group chat where they were making a bet to see who would sleep with me first. I begged and begged my parents to leave and they didn't let me for ages, every time I thought about ending it all; I came here. I would even skip school just to chill here."
"Why didn't you come hang with the pogues? we fucking missed you so much. We thought you hated us or wanted to be a kook."
"Because I didn't want you guys to see me, because I looked weak. I didn't need you guys to see that. I mean come on I'm Kie, the life of the party. I didn't want to ruin my reputation."
They both let out a laugh
"What do you wanna do J, do you wanna talk?"
"Not yet."
"Ok, whenever your ready."

He pulled her onto the hammock, on top of him. She was straddling him. He looked up at her pushing a piece of hair that had fallen behind her ear.

"You look hot, sexy, gorgeous, beautiful, pretty and cute all at the same time."
"You should look in the mirror Mr Maybank"

His hand cupped her face and he pulled her down to kiss her. It was a sweet passionate kiss.

Never in a million years did they think they would ever end up together. But boy are they glad they found each other.

JJ and Kie fell asleep for about 3 hours.
It was now 3:30pm and they thought they should get back to the château to fill in the rest of the pogues.

Kiara had texted Sarah last night to tell her they were staying at Kie's place.

"Do you want me to ring Sarah just in case they ain't at the château?" Kiara asked
"Yeah sure."

{ 10 minutes later }

"They are actually here. But down a bit further." She informed him
"What a coincidence Hahah"
"By the way J, I have never told anyone about this place so let's let it be our thing?"
"Of course baby."
Kiara blushed considering he has never called her that before......actually yes he has, but only in a flirtatious manner.

"Kiara how did it go with your fam?" Pope asked
"I think they finally are done with me and hate my guts."
"Shit that bad?"
"Well considering my Mom called me a Slut and I told dad she cheated on him I would say it's pretty bad."
"Hope you're ok!" Sarah brought her into a nice hug.
"Yo, John B can we stop at my place I forget to get clothes."
"Yeah no worries!"

Kiara sat in the back of the twinkie with JJ and Sarah.

JJ was agitated, considering his Mom is back after all this time and just expects him to be ok with it and let her in with open arms.

They pulled up to JJ's place and all piled out.
JJ wasn't going to tell them about his mom, he was just gonna show them instead.
They all walked in and saw her sitting on the couch in a really clean house for the first time in 11 years.

"Who tf- wait Mrs M?" John B asked quietly.
"Oh my days, is that John B Routledge?" His Mom let out a faint laugh as she stood up to see them all.
"Oh and Pope Heyward." She gave him a smile
"Guys meet my Mom." JJ said in a sad disappointed tone.

JJ's Mom made eye contact with Sarah and froze.
"You're back?" Sarah asked shocked
"What?" The rest of the pogues said in unison

"Hi Mom."
