Chapter 5: traitor

~

(Continuing from where we left off)

JJ pulls something out of his pocket. It's her pogue bracelet. Kie looks down and smiles as JJ puts it back on her wrist.

"Why did Cleo have your bracelet?" he asks looking back at her

"You."

Kie turns at Cleo and looks her right in the eye. Cleo starts looking around trying to find her escape.

"traitor"

"Kie what are you talking about?" Sarah looks at her and pulls her away from Cleo.

Pope looks at the knife that's lying next to Luke. He sees that it is the same as Cleo's. He picks it up and walks over to her.

"Why doe's he have your knife?" Pope looks at her as his tone is serious.

Cleo looks down and runs as fast as she can. John B sees and chases after her. He catches her and tackles her.

"Shit man!" She groans as she rolls over.

They all stand around her looking down.

"Look I can explain" She says as she gets up on her feet.

"Yeah you will" Kie says harshly.

Cleo takes a deep breath as she begins to explain.

"Last night I woke up in the middle of the night while y'all were fast asleep and heard this weird sound not too far away from us. It sounded like it was someone talking. So I got up and followed the noise. I saw this dude who had me pinned up against a tree. I pulled out my knife as defence and he said he was looking for you" She says pointing at JJ.

"He said he needed help looking for you. I told him I wasn't gonna help but then he pulled $50 and I agreed. We talked about a plan. We started thinking about a way to get your attention to listen. So I said they I would go back to where we were and take Kie's bracelet and then the next day lead her back out to where you went to get the food."

JJ rolls his eyes and ruffles his hair. Sarah looks down disappointedly. Kie doesn't take her eyes of Cleo and she's not happy.

"Look Kie-" Cleo starts as she is then cut off by Kie

"It's Kiara"

"Right, Kiara. I didn't know he wasn't gonna hurt ya. I didn't ask why he wanted JJ so I don't know why he chose you and what he was planning on doing but, I'm really sorry."

Kie rolls her eyes and walks off. She walks past he ripped shirt and keeps walking.

JJ steps closer to Cleo looking down at her.

"Get the hell away from us. If you're willing to sell us out once then you'll do it again. So I'll only say this one more time. Fuck off." He said as he walks over to Kiara.

The rest of the group follows. Cleo is defenceless as Pope still has her knife. She doesn't wanna get in anymore trouble so she just runs off on all of them.

JJ walks over to Kie. He taps her shoulder and she turns facing him giving him a smile. She then looks back at Luke. He is just lying there. Knocked out cold. JJ turns to is father and then back at her. Her head is down and she takes a deep breath

"Hey don't look at him, Look at me" He says giving her a smile.

"Are you ok?" She asks him as her hand touches his arm.

"Yeah I'm fine I promise. I- I just hate him Kie. I hate him. Is that so wrong?"

"Of course it's not J. He has abused you your whole life. He doesn't deserve you. None of us do. You're too good J!" She's looking right into his blue eyes.

"Kie that's so dumb!" He responds

She looks at him confused

"Of course you deserve me." He sends her a smile

She feels her cheeks begin to glow red so she puts her head down hoping that he can't see her blushing.

"Wanna do something fun?" He asks her

"Yeah sure what did you have in mind? Because I don't know but if you look around there ain't much to do" She says sarcastically

He says nothing instead he grabs her hand, he then looks behind him as she is following he then sends her a smile and then starts to walk over into the ocean.

Still ignoring her, he turns over to her and smirks as he pushes her in the water. Laughing at her as she comes up not looking too happy.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR" She says swimming towards him

"What? You said you wanted to do something fun" He replies giving her a big goofy smile.

The rest of the group realizes what they are doing

"He-Hey guys!" John B yells at to them

"What do you want JB?" JJ asks turning over to them

"We're gonna look for some more food ya know. Stock up" He says while pointing behind them "You coming?"

JJ turns back to Kie. She looks over to John B and shakes her head.

"Alright bye y'all" JJ waves at them before getting thrashed by a wave that he wasn't ready for.

JJ and Kie turn back around. They talk for a while just laughing and smiling not taking their eyes off each other. Kie looks at him feeling those butterflies again. She likes him. She knows she does. She's not gonna deny it anymore.

JJ hasn't stopped thinking about her the whole time they have been at Poguelandia. Well if he is being completely honest. He has never stopped thinking about her. From the first time he met her. It was when they had just started high school. JJ, John B & Pope went out surfing. When this girl caught his eye. It was Kiara. He swam over on his board and that's where it all started.

"Hey JJ?" Kie said softly

"Yeah what's up?" He says as he looks at her wondering what she's about to say

"I think I like you" Kie keeps her head down as she is scared of how is gonna react

JJ walks over to her and picks her up

She giggles as she looks down at him

"Does this answer your question?"

He puts his hand on the back of her head and pushes their faces together. They kiss softly put very passionately. JJ has been wanting to do this for years and now that it's happening... it's better than he imagined. The keep kissing for a couple more seconds before he plant her feet down back on the cold sand under the water. The stand there. Holding each other. Their eyes stay connected as their smiles are ever so wide. His hands are now rested on her waist while hers are in his hair. This right here is pure happiness that they never want to end.
