Andrew had never really read much as a teen, only skimming through magazines, reading computer and camera manuals, and barely touching an actual novel if it wasn't for English class. Steve was quite the reader, as was the Man, and they brought Andrew into their little reading circle, giving him books to enjoy, comics to laugh at, things to make him lose grip with reality. Andrew loved it all, some books fun, some strange, and some so deplorable he threw them in the trash without even reading two chapters. He found books with clever titles, some titles that were plain, bland even, and of course the "Strange Ranger" books, as the Man called them, with unusual titles that only made sense if you read the book. Some of those had included "The Fourteenth Goldfish", "Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie", and his personal favorite, "I Am The Cheese". Andrew couldn't stop laughing about that one, making a hundred terrible jokes that caused everyone around him to groan, even the master jokester, Matt. He never really had a favorite book, unless the limited edition Wicked Grimmerie counted as a book. It told all the behind the scenes secrets of the play Wicked, including what fascinated Andrew most, how they made Elphaba fly. The Man favored a mystery book about five drag queens stealing items while trying to unravel a crime, "Death Prefers Blondes" by Caleb Roerig, Steve loved his sports magazines, and Matt loved the romance books purely so he could jerk off and play out his "disgusting" bisexual fantasies in his head. It sickened Andrew to hear the sound of pages ripping, yelling at Matt to "CLOSE THE GODDAMN DOOR!". It wasn't that he hated his cousin for being bisexual, or for wanting to jerk off, that was perfectly fine with him, the fact that the book was in there too was what he hated. He quickly discovered his passion for mysteries, both movies and books, even diving into horror. Andrew loved the animal books as well, so many different species, so many facts for him to learn about Apex Predators such as himself. He never told anyone about his dreams of finding a book on Tibet, knowing maybe one day he would get up the courage to ask. He sighed as he read a magazine over the Man's shoulder, only laughing when the Man's mother pronounced the Hammacher Schlemmer magazine "Hammie Shpanker". It didn't take much for him to realize that besides romance books, he enjoyed reading almost every genre. The prospect of reading itself made him feel better, and Steve was right. It did make him lose reality, made him feel happier, lighter. He never wanted to stop reading. Unless, of course, it was a torn up romance novel with liquid on some of the pages. That was thrown directly in the trash, Andrew shaking his head and running to the kitchen sink to wash his hands thoroughly before finding another book to enjoy.
