The Man decides to be an ass again and fuck up yet another intact timeline, but gets a mostly positive outcome.
Having his watch scare the ever living shit out of him on a Friday night while he was watching his comfort cartoons was not what the Man had planned for his nightly agenda. His watch hardly ever beeped, so it was a reason to be terrified out of his mind. The last time it had beeped was when Harry jumped off the tower and no one was there to stop him. A beeper from the Man's watch was what he considered to be an omen of death. Unfortunately for him, he was right. He tapped on his watch and a loud female voice announced
"Wearer of watch labeled as Grey Shalane Wisper has been terminated."
The Man's blood ran cold. He thought of Jack, of Alex, of Steve, and of course, of Andrew. He had to male sure Andrew didn't know about any of this until Grey was alive and safe. He made sure that no one would know about the alarm or be able to see anything about Grey dying. The notification on his watch gave the location of the watch where Grey was, so the Man teleported there and what he saw shocked him so much that he stumbled back almost a solid two feet. He was in some sort of office building and there was a desk and drawers almost directly ahead of him where a skeleton in clothing sat in a chair. Next to said chair was Alex, sobbing on the ground, muttering Grey's name over and over. It was almost enough to bring the Man down to his knees as he slowly backed up and leaned against a wall, sliding down it while his vision blurred and his breathing rang in his head. His kid, Andrew's kid, was now a corpse. If it was any other person, he would examine said corpse, but this was too personal to make a science project out of. This was far too much for him to take in, but the only thing keeping him from falling apart completely was the knowledge that he could save Grey, that he could do something about this situation. However, now was not the time for being a timeline menace. Now was the time to mourn, to think, and to reevaluate himself. Was it his fault that Grey died? Did he push them too much? But at the same time, he scolded himself. He couldn't be like those fools Oliver Queen and Barry Allen who always claimed everything was their fault. It had to be a multitude of outside forces, a nd ge knew that well. He wondered how Grey would react once they were revived. Some people were angry, vengeful even, and some were grateful, happy, that they could have the chance to live again. The Man thought about what he would say to Grey, the first thing popping into his mind being
"I told you this would happen if you tried dying on me, Kid." But the Man figured sarcasm wouldn't be a good way for Grey to wake up from their first death. Maybe he wouldn't say anything but make it clear that he wasn't mad at them, just worried and scared. He had all the time in the world to figure out what he could say, especially if he actually stopped time, but he figured he would do that for the sake of Andrew, who could constantly sense everything the Man did. One wrong move and Andrew would know. It's one thing to see family die such a gruesome death, but another to see your own child die a gruesome death- one of their own making. The Man took a deep breath in, then out, and stood up walked towards Alex and what was left of Grey. He noticed the bottle of pills on the table that read "Niviline", but he had no idea what Niviline was. He was no medical expert, just a person with magic who often went farther than he should have with replicating medical procedures. He looked at Grey and immediately regretted it, stepping up to the chair and taking another breath. He held out his hands, muttering a spell under his breath, the one he always used to help resurrect people he cared about, and the ashes from the floor rose up, flying to Grey's skeleton, starting to become skin and organs once more. Within a minute, Grey was as alive as they'd been only hours ago, and Alex had finally noticed that the Man was even inside the building. They looked up at him with wide eyes, noticing Grey sitting in the chair, fast asleep and alive.
"Was... was that YOU?? Did you pull a prank on me?? Or- or was that real? Were they really.... gone?" He started to tear up again and the Man held up his hands to signal he meant no harm.
"It was no prank, Alex. They were dead. Gone. I just got the notification on my watch but I didn't know you were here too. It's alright now. They're alive and very much asleep. They'll be extra tired and maybe even hungry tomorrow. Come on, let's get you two back to Oscorp. I'm gonna have to tell Andrew about what happened, but unless you and Jack are okay with it, I'm going to keep this under wraps so you don't become the center of the latest gossip."
"That would be great, thanks. Wait, before we go, they... they left notes on the desk. Four of them. I think they wanted whoever found them to read it and give them out to everyone who got one." The Man paused, as he didn't see the letter underneath Grey as they slept. He figured he would give them out to whoever got them when he had the time, but figured it wasn't worth dealing with at the moment.
"Alright, well I'll grab those later and hand them out to everyone who got one. I'm assuming it was probably just you and Jack, Andrew, Steve, and maybe the twins."
"There were four of them, but I think one was for you." The Man once again paused, taking a few steps back in shock, his voice stuttering as he said
"For me? Grey made one.... for me? I knew it. I caused their death and I knew it." His voice grew cold and his posture became more hunched.
"I'm sure it wasn't you." Alex replied. "They had a lot going on in their life, maybe they just wanted to be over and done with it all."
"Maybe they did. Come on, let's go back to Oscorp. All of us." Alex nodded and stood up, taking the Man's stretched out hand and looking at Grey, who was still fast asleep in their chair. He made a sigh of relief that somehow, fate had intervened and saved them, or in this case, a 25 year old omnipotent man with a penchant for cartoon shows and all things dark and creepy. As the Man set his hand on Grey and teleported them all to the lobby of Oscorp, he silently thanked whatever being was listening for his ability to save the lives of those he cared about. When they arrived, Alex parted ways with the Man, who carried Grey up to their room and tucked them into bed. When Alex got back to his own room, Jack was laying there waiting for him, and Alex was scared to tell him anything about what had happened. He knew he didn't need to be, but losing someone close takes a toll not only on the human mind, but on the minds of those around them. Jack needed to know, and Alex figured there was no hiding the truth, but for now, he could relax and pretend everything was fine around him.
Unfortunately for the Man, nothing was fine. He returned Grey to their room and then went to talk to Andrew. Needless to say, it didn't go over well. They were both sobbing messs, leaning into one another and making their emotions clear to one another. It was the only thing they could do to express the agony of what happened. Neither of them could bear to move an inch, and they didn't, staying in their bed and reminding themselves that despite the pain, things were looking up already.
