The Calm Before The Storm

 Chris and Ellie had a small wedding before Ellie's due date, and not long after, Sandra passed away in her sleep. Ellie gave birth to a healthy baby girl that they named Kasandra Hope.

"Mom, are you alright?" Zeke asked Ellie one night while Ellie was out in the backyard.

"Yes, why?" Ellie smiled faintly at him.

Zeke walked up to her and hugged her. She started to cry and Zeke rubbed her back to console her. "It's okay mom. I'm here for you. I miss amma too."

"Zeke, I am never going to leave you." Ellie whispered to him.

"I know mom. I know." Zeke pulled away and smiled, Ellie wiped his tears.

"Hey you two, come on in, dinner is ready." Chris said as he peeked his head through the back door.

"Coming." Zeke and Ellie both said at the same time. Zeke helped Ellie up and the two walked inside.

"Hey babe." Ellie said as she walked over to Chris and gave him a hug.

"Have you been crying?" Chris asked.

"No." Ellie smiled.

"Lies!" Zeke laughed as he sat on the dining table. .

"You are so going to get it later." Ellie glared at Zeke then laughed before sitting down beside him.

Chris sat down after setting the food on the table and served some to Zeke.

"Daaaad." He whined.

"What?" Chris smirked.

"I don't like asparagus." Zeke pouted.

"Just one?" Chris smiled

"Fine." Zeke chuckled.

"Here, drown it in mayo, it will make it go down quicker and you won't taste it." Ellie said as she passed the mayo to Zeke.

"That defeats the purpose of getting him to like it." Chris laughed.

"Zeke..." Ellie said in the middle of dinner.

"Yes, mom?" He looked up.

"Chris and I want to ask you something." Ellie smiled.

"What is it?" Zeke put his fork down.

"We were wondering if you're going to be okay with us adopting you." Chris smiled and held his hand.

"You... you guys want to adopt me?" Zeke asked almost to tears.

"Of course, buddy. We were just talking about how it will be easy for you if you are officially and Evans." Ellie said.

"You guys are really going to do that?" Zeke looked at Ellie then at Chris.

"Yes, baby boy." Ellie smiled. Zeke started crying and Chris got up to hold him.

"You are always a part of this family. You are our son, not by blood but by heart. Always remember that." Chris said as he pulled away and sat back at his chair.

"I love you guys." Zeke said as he wiped his tears.

"We love you too, always and forever." Ellie responded.

The adoption was a big process for Chris and Ellie, they tried so hard to keep the adoption and their marriage out of the public's knowledge but it always doesn't end up that way.
