Frank didn't initially reply to Gerard's text on the Sunday asking how his weekend had gone. He left him on read for a couple of hours before replying stating he hadn't done much and asked what he'd been up to.
He really wanted him to be honest about his date with Lindsey, but at the same time knew that he would be devastated by the revelation. He needn't have worried – Gerard didn't even mention it. He simply replied that he'd had a lazy weekend too, just watching movies and eating crap.
Frank again didn't reply. He went back to wallowing in self-pity. Gerard had convinced him that he wanted nothing to do with Lindsey, and even if he didn't see what he and Frank had going on as the beginnings of a relationship (as Frank did), why didn't he just tell him that (preferably before allowing him to suck his dick)? Because he was a coward that's why. It wasn't exactly a surprise to Frank. Gerard openly admitted that he was a people pleaser and found it hard to refuse anyone or anything. Still, it fucking stung and Frank felt used.
In school the following day, the Head approached Frank and asked him to arrange with Lindsey and Gerard a convenient time for them to see her to discuss the funding they wanted for their school trip. Frank agreed and grudgingly went to find the two.
He found Lindsey first and plastered a fake smile on his face as he entered her classroom.
"Hi Frank" she said as he entered.
"Hi Linds" he replied quietly.
"Look Frank" Lindsey began, looking sheepish. "I'm sorry if I was a little pissy with you on Friday night. You know what I get like when I've had one too many."
"That's ok" Frank replied. "I had no right to talk to you that way either. Especially as I was obviously wrong about Gerard."
"Huh?" she questioned.
"Well, you guys went out again, so you must've been right about him" Frank answered.
"Oh yeah. We did. It was just coffee, but he was so sweet. We held hands and talked for hours" she smiled at the recollection. "I know I shouldn't have been so smug when I text you, but I was still a bit pissed at you and wanted to let you know you were wrong. Still love me though, don't you?"
"Yes course" Frank lied, his head reeling from the image of her and Gerard holding hands. It seemed such an intimate thing to do and he was insanely jealous. "Anyway" he said, hoping to change the subject, "Mrs Welsh wants to see us about the trip funding if you're available, say at lunch today?"
She agreed and Frank went off to tell Gerard the same thing, anxiety bubbling in the pit of his stomach.
As he entered Gerard's classroom, he found him talking to a pupil, giving advice on some artwork. He looked truly adorable and in his element as the student seemed enthusiastic about her work. He noticed Frank and looked over with a big smile.
"Won't keep you a moment Mr Iero" he called over.
"No rush" Frank replied, his heart almost pounding from his chest.
He was crushed that Gerard must not have seen Frank as anything more than someone to fool around with. It had honestly taken him by surprise, thinking Gerard felt the same way as he did about them together.
Once the girl had left - Mr Iero offering a high five as she passed - he shuffled into the room. He would give Gerard one more opportunity to tell him about his date he decided.
"Frank, hey" Gerard spoke as he closed the gap between them.
He reached out for Frank's hand, seeing as there was no one in the room with them, but Frank quickly ran his hand through his hair to avoid Gerard's touch. The younger man looked a little taken aback but didn't say anything.
