The hall was endless, the walls covered with cobwebs and grime. The soft sound of dripping echoed off the stone, drilling through the deathly silence. The air was cold, making Lana shiver.

She was alone. A single torch on the wall lit the long hall, giving no sign of life. Taking in a deep breath, she pulled out a wand. It wasn’t James’s, but something new. It was longer than James’s wand, and made of a softer, darker wood. She muttered, “Lumos.” A beam of light burst from the tip, lighting the floor in front of her that the torch’s light couldn’t reach.

            It was stained red.

With a gasp, Lana saw a line of dried blood leading down the hallway, as if whatever its source was had been attacked there and then dragged away. Biting her lip, Lana tiptoed down the hall, along the trail, until she found the source of the dripping sound.

The mangled corpse of Regulus Black hung from the ceiling, blood seeping from wounds that covered his body, growing bigger as she stared at them in horrified disgust.

Then she heard the hissing. At first she thought it was simply her ears playing tricks on her, buzzing in the deafening silence.

Out of nowhere, the snake appeared.

It was holding Regulus to the ceiling somehow, its body coiled tightly around his neck. Its horrible eyes glared at Lana from its perch on Regulus’s stiff shoulder, red tongue slipping between its fangs with a furious hiss. It slithered down Regulus’s body and onto the floor, Regulus crashing down with it.

Lana held in a scream and backed away from the beast. It lunged threateningly, snapping its powerful jaws inches from her face.

The shriek escaped her throat and she burst into a sprint down the hallway, checking over her shoulder every few yards to see if the snake was following.

It moved with incredible speed and seemed to be taunting her, deciding what part of her to devour first.

Looking back was her mistake; she tripped over something she hadn’t seen and fell with a thud onto the soaked stone floor, scraping her hands and knees. She glanced at Regulus’s body out of the corner of her eye and realized she’d somehow gone in a complete circle around the hallway. With a cry she stumbled to her feet and almost ran face first into the wall, using her blood soaked hands to hold herself up.

Lana turned to start running again, and saw nothing but the snake as it lunged straight at her, its jaws opened wide.

“GAH!” Lana screeched, sitting up in her sleeping bag and snapping her eyes open. The room was dark, the floor hard under her.

“What?” asked a panicked, tired voice, “What happened?”

“Its just Lana,” replied another weary voice as the lights suddenly burst on. Kendra stood by the lamp, her hand coming out from under the shade. “Another nightmare?”

Lana nodded. “Sorry I woke you guys up… again.”

“Eh,” Jesse muttered, rubbing her eyes. She forced herself into a sitting position beside Lana and said, “You’re as good as an alarm clock.”

“Is that supposed to be a good thing?”

“I’m not sure,” she said honestly with a tired grin. “Might as well get up, though.”
