Lana awoke in a sleeping bag, wearing the same gray cotton, long-sleeved shirt and skinny jeans she'd worn the day before. Opening her eyes seemed like an impossibility, but a small voice far off in the distance kept urging her to do so.
"Lana, wake up!" the voice called.
Lana groaned and reached up aimlessly. Her hands connected with the person's face and she pushed it away, digging herself deeper into the sleeping bag.
"Lana, they're about to clean up breakfast!" the voice said, sounding more agitated than before, "Get up!"
"Go away..." she mumbled, pulling the bag over her head.
"If you don't get up, you won't get anything to eat until lunch," a new voice said, "You won't want to wait that long."
"She won't get up, Kendra," the first voice moaned, "What should I do?"
"I don't know! Push her over or something," Kendra suggested.
The next thing Lana knew, she was being rolled onto her stomach. Her legs tangled in the bag and she let out a strangled scream before bolting upright. Her eyes snapped open and focused on the blonde girl sitting in front of her, wearing plaid pajama bottoms and a flannel long-sleeved shirt.
She smiled satisfactorily. "That actually worked."
Lana glared at Lexi. "I was trying to sleep."
"I know," Lexi said, "Andromeda told me to wake you up." She stood up and held out a hand to Lana.
Lana grudgingly took it and got onto her feet. She stretched out her arms and asked, "What's for breakfast?"
"Why don't you come downstairs and find out?" Lexi asked, and she stepped out of the room, her hands clasped behind her back.
Rubbing her eyes, Lana slowly followed.
The hallway was full of teenagers, running around and laughing. The bathroom door was open, a girl standing in front of the mirror and brushing her teeth. Two younger girls raced past her down the hall, giggling, two boys following closely behind. A girl who looked about nineteen sat on the staircase, reading a book titled Hairy Snout, Human Heart. Lexi was waiting at the foot of the stairs for her, her arms crossed.
Lana hurried down the steps. She could see Andromeda, seated beside Sirius, eating a plate of eggs and bacon in the dining room. The elf, Kreacher, walked out of the doorway, holding a stack of dirty plates, and went down the narrow staircase into the kitchen.
"Lana!" Andromeda greeted, and Cedric and Regina both looked around the backs of their chairs to see her.
Cedirc grinned pleasantly. "Good morning."
"'Morning," she said, "I'm assuming all the food is downstairs, then?"
"We'll just have Kreacher bring up a plate for you," Sirius said, rubbing his temple. His eyelids were heavy and his words slightly slurred. "Did you hear that, Kreacher? Bring up a plate for Miss Herondale."
"Of course, Master Sirius," Kreacher replied from the stairs.
"Sit down," Regina said, and pulled out the chair next to her.
