Part 9

A couple days later (Y/n) can finally hold Kathrine for feeding.
She's only 3 lbs and her breathing fluctuates.
The nurse is very helpful though. She explains how to do things and when.
Most of the time the baby is in an incubator with a breathing tube and warm blankets.
Enji visits everyday to see Katherine, but he can never bring himself to hold her.
"I don't want to hurt her." He whispered the first time.
Hearing that made (Y/n) emotional.
He didn't want to mention that he didn't feel like he had the right to hold her though.

Katherine sleeps most of the time, but somehow she always manages to wake up in time to see her father.
He looks in on her and she'll smile.
If it weren't for the tube she'd probably giggle.
Her hand reaches out slightly and her fist clenches.
The fire hero longed to feel her hand around his finger but he held himself back.
The doctor assured him that they would do everything in their power to speed up her progress. He even threw out the possibility of taking her home within a month.
Normally they say 3-4 weeks before the original due date.

(Y/n) sings to Katherine and reads to her.
The kangaroo care helped. (AKA skin-to-skin/holding the baby against your bare chest)
Whenever Enji comes into the room to visit and she is holding Kathrine against her chest, tears stream down (Y/n)'s cheeks.
It's a constant reminder that they won't be a happy family.
Enji will bring Rei back and mend their broken marriage. He'll push Kathrine away and pretend that (Y/n) doesn't exist.
Even when the mother thinks about her villain boyfriend it wasn't enough to relieve her pain.
She always has that lingering feeling that Dabi will leave.
He's a villain and his life is full of danger, not a place to raise a baby.
Thinking about it in depth made her realize just how terrible her situation is, and how it's all her fault.
Although the hero wasn't upfront with who he was and he didn't fight against her quirk, she still went through with everything.
Along with the affair, along with the pregnancy and even dating a villain.

(Y/n) stayed in the NICU for a couple weeks. She pretended that everything was ok so the nurses and doctors would think everything was going good.
Although come that third week (Y/n) decided to go back to the estate.
She didn't want to see Enji, she didn't want to see the hospital staff, and even though she wanted Katherine with her at all times-she didn't want her right now either.
Alone time, rest and peace of mind.
That's what she needs.
(Y/n) calls the maid and asks her to take her back to the estate.
Of course the woman was more than happy to do so.
The doctor agreed to her discharge. He explained that she didn't need to come back until the baby was ready to go back.
By now Katherine could take formula.
Pumping was still suggested.
"Store the milk in the freezer. It'll last until she's released and you can give it to her when she comes home."
The woman nods in understanding.

When (Y/n) gets home she changes into comfortable pjs and pumps until it hurt.
It goes in the freezer and she goes to the bedroom.
She lays down and rubs her stomach.
It felt strange to not have a bump anymore.
Not to mention the phantom feelings of the baby still inside.
(Y/n) covers herself with the blanket and cries.
All the emotions she's been holding back come out.
Loud and heartbreaking.
She was thankful that the neighbors couldn't hear her, either that or they didn't care enough to check in on her.

Endeavor didn't visit the estate. He knew it was best to give her time and space.
This gave him a chance to figure out what he wants, and what's best for everyone-not just himself.
Memories of Rei twist his heart.
It's now or never.
Enji makes his way to the hospital his wife is in, mind racing with nerves.

Enji knocks on the door lightly and waits for the ok to come in.
Rei looks over smiling, but when she sees her husband her smile fades.
The hero's eyes remain fixated on the tiled floor.
When he looks up into her eyes she smiles slightly.
"Hello Enji." She greets quietly.
"Rei," he whispers.
"It's been a long time. Are you ok?"
The man sits on the chair across from her.
"I'm not ok. And I know we're not ok. I need to know where to go from here."
"Enji I can't answer that for you."
"I need to know what you want. I don't want to be that selfish...monster I used to be. I did horrible things to you and our children. We lost Touya because of me. I don't want to shackle you to my side if you don't want me."
A small laugh escapes the wife.
Confusion replaces the sadness and regret.
"Enji I read that last letter and I believed every word. I know it took a lot to put into words. But things have changed."
"I've changed."
"That's not what I'm talking about."

"What do you mean then?" He asks.
"(Y/n). She's in love with you...and I think you've fallen in love with her."
"She has a boyfriend. She hates me. And I have you. It should be obvious what we need to do... right?"
"Enji I think what's best, is that you let me go. I'll still be there for the children. But she needs you, your baby needs you. Tell her how much you really love her and she'll accept you."
"How can you be so sure? Rei I burned her. I told her to move on and she did. She told me they're in love. How could I selfishly ask her to come back to me?"
"Because it's not selfish. You love her, genuine love. It's nothing like what we had. This is the foundation a relationship is supposed to have. And that doesn't even include your baby."
"I want to be in her life. I want her to know I love her and I won't ever hurt her like I did her siblings."
"So it's a daughter?"
Endeavor nods and smiles softly. "Yeah. She looks like that perfect combination of (Y/n) and I. She even has heterochromatic eyes like Shoto. What little hair she does have has a base of my red and highlights of her mother's hair color."

Rei smiles and listens. "Have you given any thought to the media?"
The hero sighs and nods. "Yeah but I try not to. I wouldn't know what to say. I don't want them to know the truth. But when they see me with (Y/n) and not you they'll ask so many questions. Obviously I don't want the people to know their number one hero is an abusive cheater."
"Then you don't have to say anything at all. Let the people think whatever they want. As long as you're happy and you make your new family happy as well."
The redhead looks into the women's eyes and smiles softly. "I hope you know I want what's best for you. I've practically ruined your life. I want to make things right by you."
"Then I accept. I guess all that's left to do is sign the papers."
"I knew you had them waiting. I'm just surprised you didn't pull them out years ago."
Rei hands her husband the divorce papers and he signs them, slowly.

"Now I want you to swear that you will cherish this woman and your daughter. But I also expect you to care for our children as well. They deserve a loving father as well."
"Can we have a family dinner at least once a month?" Enji asks, slightly embarrassed.
Rei thinks about it then nods. "Twice a month."
"Sounds like a plan. Thank you for helping me figure this out. I also knew you wanted to leave me, but now you have that freedom. Just don't go too far."
The white haired woman laughs softly and nods. "I'll stay close so I can visit the children. You should get going though Enji. You need to explain everything to (Y/n) and beg her to be with you."
Enji nods and kisses her knuckles. "Have a nice day Rei." He whispers then leaves the hospital.
