Mother had sent me out to the market that day. She was progressing better from the last time she was ill. I managed to keep the dirty secret concerning Ronan with me. She had noticed the dark bruises and questioned them. I lied by saying I hit myself while training. Things were not really as settled at home.Ronan kept us on our toes especially me. I stayed away from the house whenever everyone had gone out. Either by going to the farm or train or a few hours of a getaway with Mundric. He had promised to do everything in his power to make sure Ronan hurt me. How possible that was, I had no idea. Let's face it he was not going to babysit me all the time. He had work to do to earn a living, especially with the way the tax prices had shifted to an outrageous increment.
I purchased the product mother sent me and returned home. Am greeted by the faces of Mother, Yrsa and Drea. Mother looks mad once she stares at me. Did I commit a crime? No. I was cocksure I left the house on good terms with mother. Why are they all staring at me? Especially mother who is furious.
"Talie, when were you going to tell me?" she asks her tone serious.
"What do you mean?" I ask glancing at her guest.
"Ronan had molested you and you didn't have the guts to tell me?" she says her voice pitchy. I glare at Yrsa. She swore to never disclose it to anyone. Ronan threatened me not to speak of it. If he found out I told on him, I would be in trouble.
"Mother you were ill, it was not my intention to make it worse by telling you that," I lie in defense. Yrsa was going to get a piece of me for going behind my back. Mother's furious expression lessened after my apology. She ushered me to sit as she took the goods in the basket placing them on the table. The reason behind the meeting made me edgy. I sat down glimpsing at each of them. Mother sits next to me.
"My child," Drea, Yrsa's mother speaks.
"I know you are curious to know why we are all here." I nod at her words.
"Yrsa explained what happened between you and your brother," I look over at her. She bites her lips guiltily.
"Don't be mad, my dear." Drea said "We concluded that Ronan needs time to cool down. His anger is drawn from the death of his father and he needs some time to get better."
"How does that concern me?" I ask.
"Talie, your brother is taking out his anger on you so we came up with a solution." Mother chips in.
"What solution?" I ask my voice soft scared of what they want to tell me. My limbs begin shaking as my fingers fiddle getting tearful.
"Why are you crying ?" mother asks.
"Are you kicking me out?" I asked my voice husky. Mother shakes her head.
"No! You are my daughter I can't do that." I breathe out a massive amount of air I didn't know I held.
"Then what is it?"
"Taliyah," Yrsa calls out "I had a discussion with Mundric and concluded you need time off from Ronan so we came up with the idea of taking you with us on a short days trip to my betrothed. I told mother about it and she decided we come to talk to your mother together. Would you like to accompany us to Oriondoth Kingdom" Did she say what I thought she was saying?
The thought of me departing from home was nonexistent. I knew I was going to grow up get married and die in our village. Sure we were under the kingdom's domain but we were distant from the very outskirts of the kingdom. Often, I asked mother why we paid taxes to them anyway. She said in case any problem arose we had the kingdom to run to for protection. That never made sense but I didn't nag her about it. I gave an ear-to-ear smile scoffing excitedly. At last, I could see more of what the world had to offer aside from what I called home and the forest. I could see the great kingdom with my very eyes. My smile faded as fast as it appeared.
