The guards were hot on my trail as I got to my chambers. Dragging me by my arms down the hallways into a secluded room located under the castle. My body almost tripped after being pushed inside. The wall did ease my falling as I leaned onto it right after my head made a little contact with it. The metallic door clings, the keys jiggling as the guards lock it. I scurried to the dungeon door grabbing the metal bars, my heart palpitating up my throat. I was in for it, whatever happened up there was an indication of me, attempting Prince Orion's life. I turn around to glance at the hellhole I got myself into. The room was a narrow pitch dark dank room. The only visible light came from the torch burning a few steps away from the dungeon.
The offensive stench choked my throat making my nose cringe from the rancid odour permeating from the dungeon walls resulting in my stomach turning upside down in distress. Thick cobwebs filled the upper corners of the room and wisps of webbing hung from the ceiling waving in a breeze I barely felt regardless the room was ice cold. High up instead of a flower vase, was a mean barred opening with thick metal bars devoid of glass. I tip-toed just enough to have a glimpse of what was the only bright side, the main square, mocking me. Freedom, how delightful you are.
Why was I feeling sorry for myself anyway? I almost took the life of a royal son. I should stay away from the wine it must have triggered all this. I fell to my knees sobbing. How did everything in my life get so wrong? Maybe it was a time I called it quits and joined father."My Lady," Mithian calls out, "I brought you some water,"
"Leave me alone," I say without looking up.
"everything will be fine," she says. I remained inside the cell for almost an hour when I heard the locks turning. My head stays intact between my legs.
Orion's POV
The ringing in my ear was intolerable. Deirdre had lost it for a reason I did not know. Her arrival at dinner was cold, she just drank wine and pretended none of us existed. I'm not about to forget how incredibly rude she was to Enmyria, who was on my side helping me up. My balance was still unsteady after Deirdre's attack. The guards answered Enmyria's cries and as soon as they walked in I ordered them to arrest my so-called betrothed. Enmyria goes ahead and checks on me for any wounds. See that's what I love about this lady. She knew how to take care of that which was hers. We have been friends since childhood. I still recall the first day her father acquitted us. They had attended a ceremony in the kingdom including the signing of truces between different kingdoms. She was so adorable with her humour and caring nature. I loved her company it left me feeling comfy. When my mother died, Enmyria was there with me every step of the way. She tried so hard to make me happy in fact, outdid herself just to make sure I was fine.
She had the cooks prepare me my favourite meals and held my hand when I felt alone. She once had her father leave her at my castle so I would not be alone. I had found another shoulder to lean on. Sure my mother's place was irreplaceable but she was there for me. Slowly in the midst of all that my admiration grew into an attraction and my attraction turned into love. She was the woman I wanted to grow old with. A blind man could see how we felt about each other till at last father had a treaty that would bind not only Enmyria and me but our two kingdoms. I had nothing against Deirdre, never, aside from marriage. She was a rebel from the moment I met her in the woods. She was rude but self-spoken and was never afraid to air out her opinion. She loved challenges as she was a challenger herself a side of her that intrigued me. She was a being the eye beholds and that long past waist auburn curly hair suited her perfectly. The night she was declared my betrothed I recalled how she walked into the room, and captured everyone's attention myself included. Her dress captured her in all the right places don't misunderstand I am a man and not a blind one nonetheless. The words ' Lord have mercy' did fall from my lips as I gazed at her, every single person in the room bore the same expression as I.
