"Lady Deirdre what brings you to the council's room?" he asked, I rarely did that unless it was urgent. "Walk with me. My son is busy sorry he couldn't be here instead," he said handing me his arm. Gladly, I slid mine in so we could walk together. Being the clown he was he made fun of me and his son telling how lucky he was to have a daughter-in-law like me. He never hid that fact from me. As he spoke he paused for a moment. He looked distant once I eyed him from the corner of my eye.
"so he can pass out from looking at me." my subconscious said sarcastically.
"My Lord, I am restless." I start. "During my engagement, you asked me to make a wish and promised to grant it." he nods in agreement. "I have one wish,"
"what is it?"
"I only wish to visit my village to check if there's still breath in my mother's body so that I can have her here with me during my wedding." He gives me a doubtful look as if suspecting something. His expression smoothens.
"Granted. Depart at once so you are back on time. Need I remind you not to try anything stupid," He says. I smile " I'll have Leonius accompany you with several knights." I head back to the room and find Mithian finishing her chores.
"Mithian, go to your house and pack, we are going on a small trip," I announce watching her jump excitedly. "Hurry we will be at the square. I'll pack my stuff. Have Celia prepare more supplies for the journey." I get busy as soon as she is out I don't change my dress but grab a silver hooded velvet cloak and put it on. I pack up a few blankets and the shawl that belonged to mother, placing it in my satchel. I close the door behind this time carrying the key to my collar as a precaution. General Leonius was already at the square with four more knights. The king too came to bid us farewell and a safe return before walking to General Leonius.
His trust in me was overwhelming. I mean he knew I could handle his men but he was willing to take the risk anyway. My happiness seemed to be the only thing he was focused on. For her sacrifice to let me live l, I was willing to do the King's bidding. That way when the stories are told my mother would get to be mentioned and share a part in history instead of her story thinning away into nothing. I had not gotten a chance to ask him about her but I intended to with time. I wanted to know more about her. What she looked like, what she loved doing, I saved this for later when all had cooled down.
"Didn't think you were leaving me out of the fun, did you?" Mason says pulling his horse by its reigns accompanied by Orion.
"you coming with us?" I ask shocked as I place my sword in position on the horse. Mithian has already arrived and is arranging her stuff on her horse.
"I have to make sure my sister-in-law arrives safely back home," I smile at him.
"You must be wishing me death so you don't have to go through with this," I say attacking him just as he spreads my gown around the horse.
"If it was a choice I would go for it, however, I'm not that cold-hearted."
"I feel like I awe you an apology"
"You're not to blame its all father's doing"
"It still doesn't wipe off the hate in your eyes," I finalize mounting the horse. Orion helps spread my cloak around the horse.
"Take care!" he murmurs. He is surprising me today. I looked over my shoulder as we left, one last glance at him. I guessed he was happy I had left. It would give them a chance to be together. I could tell that General Leonius was thrilled about us going to my village. He was pretty much more excited than I was if I could explain in easy words. Don't get me wrong I was excited and scared about it too but his excitement seemed to surpass what I felt. The ride was intense but at times we would chat share different life experiences or make fun of each other. It would take us two days to get to my village, which meant no stopping if it were not necessary and riding till it was impossible to see in the woods. We got to my village almost at midday. I took off my collar and placed it in my bag. I had to be alert. As we arrived people gathered around staring at us, a village elder presented himself and greeted us I do recognize him he was one of the elders who helped bury my father. The former elder must have died and this one assumed his seat.
