"Yeonjun, climb up there." Hei pointed up at the window as the boy rubbed his palms together and held onto the wall-wishing for a trustworthy grip. As soon as his hands got a little far up, he lifted his feet, trying to step on anywhere he could on the uneven surface.
Continuing the process, he finally reached up there, peeping into the outside world and lifting his eyebrows as all he saw was woods as the princess described to him before and 3 towers surrounding the fortress.
Once he saw them, he gasped, suddenly slipping off, and before he landed on the ground, he closed his eyes shut. But, nothing came-no pain, no whining, or laughter from the girl next to him. Hei sighed as she slowly let go of Yeonjun from her arms. The boy still had his eyes wide as she dusted off her palms and walked to the wooden door on the far corner.
"We can use that knife of yours, that spits fire-"
"How did you- Huh?"
"Don't interrupt while I'm talking! So . . . We can use that knife to unscrew that window up there. But, being rusted, it's gonna make a lot of noise. For that . . . I'm gonna ask my people outside to plant a few bombs around the forest." Hei took her sweet time to go inspect the wooden door, showing Yeonjun how hard it was to be moved or opened from the inside.
She knew what would probably happen if Yeonjun and her were caught-she'd most likely be used as bait and the boy would be executed for trespassing the boundary. Her plan was that she and Yeonjun would have to run back to Dong Yue on foot. Once their selves are in the other Empire's territory, they'll be safe.
But not for very long.
The two talked about it together and agreed that it would be best if they were together for a few months and be there to protect each other along with the soldiers of the Dong Yue Empire and once everything's calmed down, either Yeonjun can go his way or stay back as one of Hei's closest friends.
With the recipe of invisible ink residing in the princess's mind and Tuesday soon approaching (which was considered as a day where the prisoners could write to their families), a letter was successfully sent disguised as a 'best of luck' wish for her non-existent sister who won a music competition at the minister's court.
Hei wrote down about how she found a trustworthy boy and was now ready to leave the prison. Her men were mostly her friends, and according to her, she actually had left with them. Fortunately, they escaped but, that hadn't stopped them from trying to get Hei away from the rotting hell. For the past years, they've continued doing their best but, they always ended up wounded or in the grave.
Looking forward to the next Tuesday, her people wrote back to her.
The idea was that they needed to push themselves out of the bar-ed window before the guards come-meaning, they had less than an hour to escape. The loud explosions of the bombs would cover up the noises the rusted window would cause. The slight problem was that the forest was humungous and they'll have to run in any direction to find a way out.
