Six stared at Mono as he held onto her hand, keeping her from falling. She didn't get it. Why? Why was he saving her? Didn't she deserve to fall into the pit below?
"C'mon! Pull us up!" Mono yelled to someone.
Six felt herself being hoisted onto the ledge, and then found herself on fer belly, safe. She got to her knees, and looked up at Mono. He knelt down, shortening the distance between them. The two friends just stared blankly at each other, neither one of them knowing what to say or do.
"Uh... hi," Mono said, waving.
Six didn't know how to respond.
"A-are you r-real?" She asked.
Mono looked confused at that question. "Yeah, I think I am," he replied.
So this wasn't a trick. He was really here. Six didn't know if that was a good thing or not.
"Hey, is your arm okay? It looked like it got hurt pretty bad," Mono said.
"I-it's fine," Six lied, holding her arm close.
Suddenly, Mono hugged her very tightly.
"I'm glad you're okay," he said, tears falling from under his paper bag.
Six slowly hugged back. As much as she didn't want to admit it... she missed him. Her own eyes started to swell up with tears.
But as she hugged him, she saw something behind him. Not just something, that thing. It was right behind Mono, staring at them with its hollow eyes. Six felt herself starting to shiver. Her heart started beating faster. Her skin started to turn cold. She wanted to warn Mono, but her tongue was held still. She couldn't speak. But as she kept staring into the hollow eyes of that thing, she had to do something.
"M-M-Mono?" She managed to say. "Th-th-there's s-s-something behind you."
"Oh! Right, you two don't know each other," Mono said, turning around. "Six, this is my friend, the knight! Knight, this is my friend Six."
Six instantly froze. That thing was now right in front of her. Not only that, it was Mono's friend!? How could anyone trust something as terrifying as that?! Six stared at "the knight", terrified, and it stared back. It didn't move, not even an inch. It just stared at her, like it was going to kill her at any second.
"Ummm, I take it you don't know what to do?" Mono asked, noticing the tension between the two of them. "Hey, why don't we find a place to stay for a while? Six is hurt, I glitched myself too much, and you need a place to recover okay?" Mono told the knight.
"Glitched?" Six asked.
"Oh yeah! I got this new power that lets me glitch myself and interact with other objects," Mono explained. "Like this."
Six watched as Mono's body turned into static. She slowly inched towards the edge. She remembered the Tower. The years she'd spent trapped in there. The constant fear. The constant buzzing. Hoping that someone, Anyone would come and save her. While the Signal Tower twisted her mind, made her believe things that weren't true. Despite all her efforts to forget, She remembered it all.
Mono's body suddenly returned to normal, and he walked towards her, reaching out his hand.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you remember," he said. "Maybe we should find a place to rest. I think we need to recover in more ways than one."
Mono grabbed Six's hand, and started searching his pockets.
"Uh-oh," he said. "I think I dropped my flashlight when I was running after you."
