-TWENTY-FOUR. Mother-in-law?

CHAPTER 24

『Mother-in-law?』

❝Thank you for being friends with my little Langa.❞

    "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING US over, Mrs. Hasegawa." Kaito politely said to the shorter female.

    "I should be thanking you for being good friends with Langa!" Mrs. Hasegawa beamed, guiding Kaito towards their sofa, "Please have a seat, dinner will be served soon." She said, turning on the TV and walking towards the kitchen.

Kaito's little siblings sat down on the sofa, invested on the show that was on TV. "Hey." Langa greeted them, walking towards Kaito, "Thank you for coming, my mom was excited to meet you."

    "Ah, no! Thank you for inviting us! So, what's wrong with Reki?" Kaito asked, patting the seat next to him.

    "Well, he seems really spaced out, like something is bothering him. This morning when I was waiting for him so that we could go to school together he didn't even notice me. Then, when it was time to go home, he didn't even wait for me! And then when I invited him to tonight's match he told me he couldn't go because he had errands. At midnight!"

    "Maybe we should ask him if something's bothering him, it doesn't seem to be something simple..." Kaito stared at the floor, "Wait, there's a match tonight?!" He suddenly asked, a little louder than he should have had.

    "Yeah, are you gonna come? I'm pretty sure everyone will be coming, even ADAM." Langa exclaimed with sparkles in his eyes.

    "Well... I was going to say no, but seeing you full of excitement... Fine, I guess I'll go..." The white haired male sighed, overcome by his friend's cuteness.

    "Great, I'll pick you up at 11:52." Langa exclaimed with a soft smile in his face.

    "Thank you for the food!" The group said together, putting their hands together as if they were praying.

Kouske and Tamaki started eating really fast, as if someone was going to steal their food the moment they looked away, and Umi was eating messily, hoping that her older brother would notice her messy face and clean it for her (she really liked when Kaito did that, it felt nice and she could see the handsome face of her big brother up close).

    "Kouske, Tamaki, manners!" Kaito scolded the twins, who murmured a 'sorry' and started eating at a normal speed, "And Umi, don't be so messy." Kaito held his sister's chin and cleaned her cheeks and mouth, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Hasegawa." He apologized.

    "No, it's okay! I actually quite like seeing your little siblings act so lively! When Langa was a kid, he was already like he is right now, so I didn't get to experience moments like this." Mrs. Hasegawa explained, smiling sweetly at him and letting out a short laugh.

    "Mom!"

    "Really? I thought he was the type of kid who ate so fast that food flew everywhere!" Kaito exclaimed, wide eyed.

    "No, he was actually really polite while eating, and now he is too. Even though he eats a lot, he seems to want to enjoy it."

    "Mom stop it..." Langa was embarrassed, Kaito noted.

    "So, how did you two meet?" Mrs. Hasegawa asked the big question.

Kaito replied half-truthfully, "Well, I met Langa through our mutual friend, Reki. Since we don't go to the same school, we often hang out at the park and one day he brought Langa with him."

    "And what school do you go to?"

    "I go to Nekoma High. I first wanted to go to the same school as Reki and Langa, but I got several athletic scholarships and I ended up choosing Nekoma because it had a good team and it was near my house."

    "An athletic schoolarship?! What sport do you play? You must be really good at it!"

    "I play Volleyball as an all-rounder. That means I can play any position. Maybe that's why they gave me a scholarship." Kaito awkwardly laughed.

    "Kai-nii that's not true! They wanted you on their team because they saw you get through those big middle blockers! You're awesome so don't deny it!" Tamaki corrected.

    "Sure, sure. Whatever you say..." Kaito replied with a defeated look on his face, making Mrs. Hasegawa chuckle at the siblings. 

Dinner went smoothly after that. Mrs. Hasegawa kept telling Kaito stories about Langa from when he was younger, making the blue haired boy embarrassed. In exchange, Kaito told her many stories about his younger siblings, making her and even Langa laugh.

Needless to say, Kouske, Tamaki and Umi were quite mad with Kaito, and they wanted revenge. However, they couldn't think of an embarrassing story about their bro— wait.

    "At least I wasn't literally panicking so much that I couldn't even ring on the door bell!" Kouske yelled at Kaito, who looked at him straight in the eye and smiled creepily.

    "Kou-kun, what are you talking about?"

    "Nothing." Kouske quickly replied.

    "That's what I thought."

The siblings left soon after dinner, seeing as Umi fell asleep on the table.

Kaito was happy. Mrs. Hasegawa was a wonderful woman, and he had a great time talking with her. He also really liked seeing how Langa's house was like. It was simple and cute, just how he imagined.

The white haired boy just hoped that, after tonight's events, he could ask Reki what was bothering him so much.
