Chapter 7: Millionairs

Danny

That next morning I woke up knowing I would pick her up for breakfast. 'You are up early', Mark groaned when he came downstairs for a cup of coffee. He was crashing here because he had a fight with his wife which he was ordered to make up today.

I was racing towards Kay's door. I saw her looking out the window for me. She was just as excited to see me as I was to see her. Her beautiful dark brown hair was shining in the morning sun. Her smile made me smile. I rang the bell impatiently waiting. Kay's mother opened. 'Hello Mrs. McClane', I said with a smile. 'Danny, are you up for a talk?', Anna asked. 'Ehm yes of course', I said wondering what was coming. She closed the door as we stood outside together. Kay looked worried out the window.

'Don't worry Danny I am not going to be a hard ass mother in law or something, not my style. I just wanted to say to you that I really love having you around Kay, it seems to make her a better person, she is the happiest I have ever seen, I honestly didn't think that someone famous like yourself would be interested in my daughter, I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, my daughter is beautiful as she is, it's just that I need to look out for her, but I also need to find a balance for me to let her go, after all she is 24, you are?', Anna asked. 'I am 34', I said with a smile. 'There is an age gab between the two of you, a lot, does that bring any problems? Media and stuff', Anna asked. 'Not as far as I am concerned Mrs. McClane', I said. 'Anna please, anyway, what I am getting at is that I am happy that the two of you have found each other, Danny you proved my first thought about you wrong', Anna said. 'Anna, may I ask what you thought about me?', I asked. 'I was worried that you were going to take advantage from her, but you proved me wrong Danny, so if you are up for it, and if Kay agrees, would you like to have dinner at our place tonight, invite your friends, Leilah is coming, she is my daughter as Kay explained I guess, my husband is flying to Dublin as we speak, he is excited to meet you', Anna said.

I was nervous about that. Kay didn't mentioned her dad much. 'I will invite my friends, I let you know with how many I will come tonight', I said. 'Thank you Danny, Kay you can come now', Anna yelled. 'Finally', Kay said smiling. 'Hey', I said. Just the sight of her made me so shy. The little boy came out of me again. My true self. I had no idea what she had done to me to make me feel like this. 'Hey', she said back. 'So I invited Danny over for dinner tonight, he can bring his friends with him', Anna said. 'Oh okay, cool. Dad is coming tonight right?', Kay asked. 'Yes sweetie, he is coming, let's hope his flight is in time', Anna said. She hugged Kay and wished her good luck with the studio sessions and went back inside.

'I love your mum', I said. 'Really, well I love it that you love her, when I can I meet your mum?', Kay asked. 'Whenever we get to be in Dublin for sure, oh no I forgot, you are going to meet her sooner then that, she will be at the final from The Voice, I am sure you are going to be my final girl', I said as we were waiting in line to get a coffee. 'Thanks for the confidence in me, you know that there is a public vote right, so the fact that you love me, doesn't mean the audience will love me as well', Kay said. She got a point.

We got our coffee and bagels and went to sit outside, almost like a normal couple. 'How is your bagel, any good?', I asked. 'It's good, not as perfect as you though', Kay said. I melted away when she said that. We wondered around a bit holding hands. Avoided camera's and all other kinds of fans and had a nice quiet morning with just the two of us. She is perfect.

We went to the studio's and promised each other to keep it a bit professional. Or at least try.

'So, studio day knockouts, you choose the right song, it might get you a ticket to the live shows, choose wrong, your off the show, one mistake and your out', I said to my team. I saw Kay listening and our eyes locked for a moment. Before I got lost in hers I moved on with my story. 'Way to go Dan, keep it professional, your words'.
