Chapter 5: Glowing

Danny

At the moment that I thought we wouldn't have any troubles with the manager, well speak about the devil. He just came in. Oh boy, I was fucked for sure. 'Danny O'Donoghue I want to see you in my office, Kay McClane you too', he said. I saw her looking worried. The others looked like they knew already what was going on. Were we that blind. Where we this stupid not to think that someone would notice us. The looks we gave each other, the connection we had. Kisses we shared. Obviously.

'So I think we all know why I called you both down towards my office don't we', he said. 'Ehm', I said playing dump. 'Well let me spell it out for you, you've been seen by the media, not something that will go unnoticed', Michael said (the manager). He threw photo's in our labs. Photo's from the two of us yesterday when we were out on the bike. Me and her kissing passionate. Gosh I felt so guilty. Her first love shouldn't have been like this. But then again, I gave her an easy way out, she didn't took it. I looked at her. She looked nervous. I grabbed her hand. 'No, no grabbing hands, let go now', Michael said. 'Michael come on, I am only human, you have no idea how hard is is for me to find a girl in this business I am into, you may think that it is easy, but it's not, for the record, we met before The Voice and I didn't knew that she was going to enter', I said stating the facts.

Michael sighted and took a deep breath. 'Danny you are an amazing coach, you are not going to throw that away because of a girl', Michael said. At that moment she stepped up. 'Excuse me, I am right here, does 'the girl' has any say in this, like Danny said we knew each other before The Voice started', Kay said. 'That isn't going to cut it', Michael said. 'Michael how can you say this, I am in love with her, you can't make decisions for my heart or hers for that matter', I said.

That is were I hit him. Michael was always a sucker for the heart. 'Look, I don't give a rats ass about the fact that you knew each other first, the point is that it's out now, you only need to take a look at tomorrows headlines and Danny I am going to have to repair the damage you've done for The Voice. This is going to cost you your salary', Michael said. 'What, you can't do that to him, that is not fair, Danny is working his ass off for everyone and you know it', Kay said. I blushed when she said that.

'Look Kay, the press needs to be put onto place, that is going to costs us a lot of money, you have no idea about that. Danny knows the price tag', Michael said. 'Danny', Kay started carefully. I knew that she thought I was mad, but I wasn't. I wanted to be with her, we choose to be with each other, I choose to be with her, if that is going to cost me, so be it. 'Look at me Kay, I am in love with you, no money is going to change that, or press for that matter', I said.

Kay

I was really touched by Danny's words and I got tears in my eyes. 'Did I said something wrong?', Danny asked worried. 'No no not at all, you just... you are the best first boyfriend I could have ever wished for', I said. 'First?', Michael interrupted our conversation. I forgot that he was there. That seemed to happen a lot when I was with Danny. 'Go already, Danny just try and make it not to obvious you want her to win The Voice okay, you can pick her if she is the best singer, not because she...', Michael started. 'Okay I get it', I said not wanting to hear more what he had to say. 'Get out of my office, I have more things to do, like cleaning up after your sorry romantic asses', Michael muttered.

'That could have been worse', Danny mumbled. 'Thank you for standing up for us today', I said. 'Sweet Kay I would do anything for you, I am only happy when I am with you baby girl', Danny said. 'Same goes for me', I said. He leaned forward and kissed me. I put my arms around him. He put his around my hips. He lifted me up and was cheering after we kissed.

We went back as the others were still waiting and reading a newspaper. 'Sorry for the waiting, but let's start, first up is...', Danny started.

'Are you ready for it?', Danny asked me with a smile when we were at the studio's. He put me to a duel with a guy named Jesse. That was going to be easy. Nevertheless I was nervous about the performance I was going to put on in front of the other judges.

It was interview time for me.

'So how do you feel about the battles, confident, fearless or scared and nervous that Danny might not pick you as the best', Keira said (the interview girl). 'I can't honestly tell how I feel, I feel different things, those feelings you summed up pretty much cover it', I said. 'What about Danny, what do you think about him as a couch, do you think you made the right call to go for him?', Keira asked. 'I think I would be better off with Tom... no I'm kidding', I said when I saw her shocked face. She laughed. 'No... Danny is an amazing coach, he is sweet and caring, he makes me feel I can handle the world', I said. 'Sounds like you are in love', Keira said smiling. 'With music yeah', I said changing the subject. 'I was talking about your coach', Keira said not letting the subject go obviously. 'Did you knew that there were fanfics about you and Danny, people already ship the two of you together', Keira said. 'No I didn't, but I wish them good luck on the writing', I said quickly. Keira laughed. 'Okay well good luck with your performance', Keira said. 'Thank you', I said.

I went on stage and put on a brave face. I looked at Danny when I got up. He smiled at me and clapped. I saw the other coaches looking at Danny and back at me. They knew already too. Boy I felt so small. Not that it wasn't worth it though. But I am going to win because of my singing.

I was holding on to my guitar and waited on Jesse. He was a real jerk towards me, but also towards Danny. Danny told him often that he shouldn't dance and sing at the same time since it would hurt his singing. He wouldn't listen however. Well his grave.

'First up from team Danny it is the sweet Irish girl Kay McClane!', Danny said. I saw my mum, Leilah and Andy cheer and all my other fans. 'From the other side it's the rocking guy Jesse Smith!'

Then it was showtime. As soon as the music started I could feel myself calm down and I let the words flow. I didn't see the coaches I only saw Danny. I could only see him. Him and me were the only people on the planet.

I could suddenly hear the applause as if it was a waking up call. Danny's eyes said enough. They spoke for themselves for me.

'Wow, that battle was amazing, I mean Kay was it for me, can you see how stupid I feel for not turning around, but let's be honest, would you have picked me?', Jessie said with a smile. I smiled and shook my head. 'See, Danny is the perfect coach for you', Jessie said. 'I agree, I see improvement of your voice, it's nice to hear that you have something else then The Script song, not that you didn't sang it good, because you did, but it's nice so we can hear your voice, not remembering Danny with that voice', Will said. 'Yeah great song choice by the way Danny, Everything Has Changed from Taylor Swift is a good way to do a duet, I am really sorry for Jessie, but I have to go for the better singer and that is Kay', Tom said.

'Thank you, that means the world to me', I said smiling. 'Danny we need a winner', Holly said. 'So the winner of this battle is without a doubt Kay', Danny said pointing at me. I smiled. 'Go hug your coach', Holly said. She whispered something in my ear. 'Michael said that it was good publicity if you guys would like kiss', she said. I was surprised.

I jumped off on stage and was so happy. I put my guitar on my back so I wouldn't have troubles with hugging Danny. 'Good job sweetheart', Danny said. I whispered something in his ear and Danny understood. He tucked a bit of hair behind my ears.

Holly looked at me and smiled. I knew what she must be thinking. But I wasn't ready to kiss Danny in full public yet. Not yet at least. That day might come, just not now.

'Good job sweetie', my mum said. She hugged me. 'Yeah really good', Leilah said. 'What did you whispered to Danny?', my mum asked. 'Nothing, that is between him and me', I said with a smile. 'Kay you are so in love', Leilah said. 'I am, I can't seem to be thinking about anything or anyone else then Danny', I said.

Danny

'So it's her right', Tom said when he came into my dressing room again, this time accompanied with the others. 'Well ehm', I started. 'Don't worry, we are not mad or anything, she is the best, you were right today to pick her', Tom said with a smile.

'Thank you guys', I said. 'I have never seen that look on your face before, she makes you feel good right?', Jessie asked me. 'She does, she is sweet, funny, beautiful, she is there for me, she stood up against Michael for us and me', I said. 'Against Michael, well that is good from her, standing up against Michael like that, I am a bit scared for him', Will said with a smile. 'Thank you guys, for not being mad about it', I said. 'Danny, we are happy for both of you', Tom said.

The words from Tom made me realize that I had great friends. That I wasn't alone.
